I struggled not because his revelation changed my opinion towards him, but as the first person he confided in, I wanted to reassure him that this has not changed the love and the sense of belonging between us.

We live in the “Bible Belt” of America, which holds strong conservative cultural and religious views, so Jonathan was facing a daunting task of revealing his sexual orientation. Since life is growth and motion, a fixed point of view kills anybody who has it.” All these experiences lead me to believe that prejudice hinders a society‘s ability to grow and make progress. We must not stand silent if and when these malicious events arise in our presence, for if we stay silent, we are accomplice to injustice.

The next goal I had for Tom was to figure out how he wanted to or if he wanted to come out as gay to his family and friends. Support groups are imperative to helping youth questioning their sexuality to become more comfortable with the possibility of possibly coming out as queer (Sue and Sue, 2009,p477). These support groups have other individuals also questioning their sexuality and going through the same situation and thus could really be helpful to Tom when he decides what his feelings mean and whether to come out or not. By finding a support group for Tom and allowing him to feel comfortable making a decision, I will help him decide whether or not to come out a gay and if he did decides to, whom to come out too. Being a part of the LGBTQ community can be something very overwhelming and helping someone come to a decision about joining the community and doing everything possible to make them feel included is imperative.…

Human Health and Services(1997) proved that “Exercise and sport participation can enhance mental health by offering adolescent girls positive feelings about body image, improved self-esteem, tangible experiences of competency and success, and increased self-confidence. It can also help with academic achievement.” This lead me to wonder how transgenders are affected by sports and if it helps their self esteem at all. This is when and where the question of if transgenders have an unfair advantage in sports?…
