The Importance of Being Organised

Organisation skills are extremely important because it helps you keep track of the time and produce successful outcome. Through assisting and observing the Styling Director (Liz Golding), knowledge of a fashion stylist and styling for the runway was obtained. To prepare for MBFF, Liz asked me to complete running sheets, contact sheets, festival schedule and other necessary documents. These documents were organised in chronological order. Through the task, better understanding of the upcoming event was attainable since I was able to access the festival information before the starting date. According to Lorette (n.d) “Without good business communication, the internal and external structure of a business can face numerous challenges that can ultimately lead to its demise.” Furthermore, ability to professionally communicate through different media is important. When emailing certain people, it is essential to use appropriate language at all times to show respect and professionalism.
Liz asked me to send out emails to designers attending MBFF, asking for their backstage guest list. In the field where everyone is busy at all times, it is important to be straightforward while acknowledging their hard work by showing respect when asking something through a written communication device. For example, I have learnt that it is important to send out a personalised email to show respect, instead of sending out a group email. It may seem time consuming, however, personalised emails indicate the message is important and should be replied. The emails are kept very short and

I believe her confidence does come from her extensive experiences but her organisation and communication skills definitely support her confidence. The documents are kept in the folder at all times and several copies of necessary documents were given to proactively complete each tasks. Garments and documents were in specific orders to communicate easily. Roles given included writing the running lists of the models for the each show. Correctly communicating the information is essential and professional. Willingness to learn and being able to independently work is very important. It helps to creatively problem solve issues and proactively respond to change. Since people working behind the backstage are mostly busy at all times, it is helpful to be able to solve problems on your own if possible through the knowledge obtained from previous sessions. Therefore, paying attention and having an eye for details is crucial. Through the experience and knowledge of the festival and operating systems, I was able to assist other co-workers when necessary. Additionally, I have learned that staying positive and being confident is vital. While working with professionals, it is important to give them the sense that you know what you are doing.
