The Importance Of Being Naturally And Physically Divided

Improved Essays
The third step is to be completely natural and not so judgmental. If you start a friendship based on lies and being someone you are not sooner or later the real personality comes to light and then how would you want to be taken seriously and respected amongst others. You should never pretend to be who you are not. There is no point in trying to fit in with others if it affects your emotional, mental, and physical way of being. Also, avoid being judgmental just because someone looks looks or acts different from us doesn’t mean they better or worse than anybody. One day I was riding the subway and because New York is such a busy city public transportation is non stop. The constant wear and tear of these services calls for maintenance. His clothes were so bright and colorful, it bothered me to look at him and it made me angry. I do not like bubbly people who always seem in a good mood and are super energetic. Just like the people who work at Disney World they make it seem as if life is so kind, full of joy, no sadness only happiness and laughter, glitter and sprinkles everywhere, and high pitch voices that make me cringe. This man was wearing so many colors at the same time as if a unicorn had puked on him and to top it off he was wearing shiny shoes so shiny they glared. A few minutes passed and managed to stop complaining. For some strange reason I found myself staring at his shoes, that was until he caught me and I looked away instantly. I assume he could tell something was wrong because he asked me “why the face?” and I responded back “your shoes are too shiny” he started laughing and told me “you should wear more colorful things, why you are dressed in all black?” and I replied “why do you wear so much colors” and it went back and fourth, we changed topic but were still complaining about many things in general until the train started to move once

Healthy Boundaries and How to Reset Them Last week we discussed what unhealthy boundaries are and how we can be violated by them, but what are healthy boundaries? Someone with healthy boundaries is able to identify how they feel, what they think and chooses how they will react or behave in any given situation; taking full responsibility for their thoughts, feelings and behavior. They do not blame others for what they think, feel, or how they behave because, they are able to stand up for themselves calmly and intelligently, without using intimation or manipulation.…

My life is devoid of color I think to myself as I shuffle down the crowded streets of New Jersey. I've been living 8 years as a teenager and what have I done that could be on a tv show or in the newspaper. Hell the people on modern family are more exciting than me. I'm only suffocating myself thinking about this but I can't help it.…

Men clearly benefit in societies where masculine hegemony exists because they have most of the power that is distributed. This could be seen when talking about vertical segregation because men are being given jobs like homicide and drugs task forces, while women are being tasked with jobs that are seen as feminine, like jobs that involve domestic violence or sexual assault victims…

Throughout the history of our nation, partisanship has divided us. The ideals of separation have continued for centuries. The entire premise of America is built on concepts of a difference; red or blue, rich or poor, black or white. Our foundations have been polarized ever since the United States of America was formed with The Constitutional Convention in 1787. With your vote, you can make a change.…

This past month, I’ve put in quite a few hours at my job, a Christian bookstore and (to anyone who has been there, this won’t come as any kind of shock) our usual clientele is (to put it bluntly) old. And I’m okay with that. Old(er) people don’t normally scare me (unless they’re super cranky and/or insane). All that being said, it’s usually a rare occurrence when we end up with younger people in the store.…

I need to make myself more approachable, friendly and initiating conversations with people who differ from me. Making a conscious effort to be aware of those, I do not generally interact with but at the same time not making it obvious I see a difference in their appearance. This can include patients from another culture by being culturally sensitive to their needs as a way providing quality care. The next strategy I can take is by overcoming my shyness and approach people from different cultures to form relationships or build a rapport. I need to watch someone with charisma to see how he or she interact with people and apply that to my personal situation.…

In today's society, we are faced with a problem that was never prevalent before; a crime that goes unseen like no other, and that is rape. Along with new societal norms, we've adapted a new language, one riddled with bigotry and double standards. Disrespect is at an all time high- women are objectified and thrown around by men- and it is all due to the usage of one word: slut. This word, which is synonymous to prostitute, is used in all areas, from describing an outfit, to body shaming, to degradation of a girl who kissed a boy in the wrong place at the wrong time.…

Religion teaches people how to use their freedom for the good of themselves and others. It is practically the sole means of counteracting the materialistic aspects of life by taking people’s minds beyond the physical, material aspects of life. Religion teaches men that being good is in their self interest because they will be rewarded in the afterlife. By working towards the common good rather than personal gain, people are forced to work together. Through these features of American democracy which de Tocqueville noted, Americans are able to balance individualism with the good of the community.…

The separation of soul and body has captivated philosophers for ages. Most religious people believe and support the idea of dualism because frankly the other options are a little sad and disappointing. If mind and body are the one and the same, then the idea of soul and religion is redundant and if that is the case, then nothing of you exists when your body doesn’t. Foder not only dismisses the theory of dualism, he also supports a radical functionalist theory of mind. According to him humans should not be the only ones that should be considered for having a mind.…

Tuesday, September 11, 2001, a date that will forever be a part of history, a tragedy that shook the world. I recall going back to school the following week, an 11 year old Muslim 7th grader ready to start her day. Boy was it difficult. The deadly stares I received while commuting on the NJ transit bus to and from school. I felt like I was the blame for every tragedy that has occurred.…

On Saturday October 5, 2015, I approach the bench at Walmart in Dumfries, Virginia. Before I sat down on the bench I saw a little girl running towards her mother asking for a Slurpee from Subway that’s located inside Walmart. I heard the little girl mother said” Wait a minute Isabell, I need to put these groceries in the car first”. I was located at the front entrance on the left side of the building. I selected this particular place because it’s a busy place to shop and get to see all activities from different strangers.…

Introduction The argument of nature vs. nurture has been one of the oldest and one of the largest controversies on whether our influences come from our genes (nature) or environmental factors (nurture), and how it could affect our behavioral, appearances, development, and our personality. These two play a big role in the human development. This argument will always exist on what is said about the human development. Scientists have not been able to sort this argument out and decide which one rules out the other.…

I’ve had many different friends in my life. I’ve had good and bad relationships. Friends that I grew apart from and others that ditched me because they simply just didn’t want to be my friend anymore. But all of those relationships, good and bad, have shaped who I am today and each have taught or showed me something different about friendship. For that reason all of the hurt, trials, and stress those relationships brought to my life was all worth it.…
