You may ask yourself, what does it mean to be National Board Certified? Being National Board Certified (NBC) is one of the most respected profession certification available in education. This certification has several benefits for the teacher, but also the students and school. It was created to develop, maintain and distinguish accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvements in the schools (About Certifications). Lately, I have been in contact with three local physical education teachers that are all National Board Certified. I interviewed them through email about their teaching experiences and their thoughts about NBC. All three teachers responded with great insight and information. She accepted the challenge alongside another Warren County PE teacher. At the time the program was relatively new so there were a couple of incentives that were offered to teachers that wanted to go. The board of education paid for a large sum of the fees. Once they were certified, they got a $2,000 stipend each year. She also attended because she wanted to further her education in addition to the Master’s degree that she already received. The NBPTS certification allows teachers to have a Rank 1 certificate. She did not want to take more college hours and this was a good alternative for her. Fletcher talked about how this program really improved her teaching and student learning because it allowed her to really examine what type of teacher she was. While she was there she had to show ways that she was a leader in her school and how she was a teacher that genuinely cared about the health and well-being of her students (Fletcher, 2016). She feels like she is a better teacher because she has to live up to the standards of being
