I was told about A prom to remember, a month before it took place. This event is a prom for children who have cancer or other serious illness. My main goal was to teach Emily to love herself for who she is, and not what she looks like. She told me about how she felt self conscious about losing her hair and about how her skin looks dull. I told her how beautiful she looked. I knew how long she spent getting ready. She spent all day preparing for her big night. Emily was dressed in a stunning gown, and had her makeup done professionally. I shared with her my personal stories and experiences with my low self-esteem. I told her about how I over came them. Having low self-esteem ended up building my confidence. Thanks to that experience it made me who I am today. I left with a smile on my face, knowing that I had just changed someones life and they had also changed mine. This may not have been a monumental change, but I inspired someone to see themselves for what they are worth. Wishing I would have had a conversation like that with someone during my youth. I can’t dwell on the past, but I can only change someone else’s future. While I complain about minuscule problems, some children don 't even have a chance to see the outside world because they are confined behind hospital walls. A prom to remember was not just a pleasant event, it was the most positive experience I have ever had in my work
