The Importance Of Being At Lake Glendo

As waves break on the sand, birds tweet back and forth high in the trees, the sand wrinkles along the bottoms of my feet, and as the smell of the fresh outdoors saturates my nose I think to myself, “This is my favorite place in the whole world.” Ever since I was a little girl, my parents took our family on camping trips to Glendo State Park, Wyoming, or as we like to call it, Lake Glendo. Glendo State Park is located almost directly 200 miles north of Denver, Colorado, and is surrounded by many open fields where free-roaming range cattle keep the grass trimmed. Even though the winter months cool down the lake, after a month or two of summer the water is warm and the temperature is warm, with occasional storms. Lake Glendo is my favorite place because of the wildlife that it has, the environment, and the plethora of activities. The high temperatures ranging from mid seventy degrees to low one hundred degrees make the stay at the lake enjoyable. Since it is so warm most of the day I spend either in the water, near the water, or on the water boating. Since it is so warm, it is relaxing to be outside in the sun getting tan or even just soaking up the vitamin D. The scenery at the lake is absolutely breathtaking. Looking out at the lake at any place at the lake, there is a beautiful beach, some with rocks, sand, dirt, grass, mud, and cliffs. My favorite sight there is when I am standing at Sandy Beach overlooking the lake. From this view, I can see the other side of the lake, a few homes, and in the background I can see the Rocky Mountains. The best background noise, especially at night, is listening to the waves from boats crash on the sand. Being surrounded by Glendo State Park’s climate, scenery, fresh air, and the variety of beaches is relaxing and
