The Importance Of Being A Volunteer

I believe that kindness and compassion are like a domino sequence. Once a person does a nice thing to someone else, the next person will also try to do something nice, and a chain of good actions that will cross neighborhoods, cities maybe even travel around the globe. Since I was a kid nothing pleasures me more than helping others. I’ve always knew that I wanted to be a volunteer, just like my mom always knew she wanted to be a doctor (and now she is an amazing one). I made my definitive decision of becoming a volunteer when I was 6 years old. Every year I collected clothes and toys and took them to an orphanage. That time it was around Christmas and my mom let me stay and give the toys to the children. I never forgot the genuine happiness …show more content…

My grandparents included, since they were both teachers, although I never met them, the memory of how much they loved and respected every single person, and the fact that the students and coworker from where they taught named a building after them inspires me to seek through learning more than just facts and mathematical formulas. They inspire me to use it as a tool to do something good in the world and inspire others to do the same. So in the spirit of this eternal pursuit of knowledge I think that a Traditional college is the right choice for what I want. I am really curious and there are several things I would like to learn along with college. Since I have a reasonable class rank and the will to learn a Traditional college seems the appropriate fit for me. My plan in life is to be a volunteer, and I have to face it there are no colleges that teache volunteering or a specific set of goals that I can follow. But I also think it is important to think ahed. If someday I wish to settle down, perhaps start a family, a good degree and a career wouldn’t be bad.And although I can't really get a degree on volunteering, I think getting one in children’s psychology will help me play an even more active and important role as a volunteer in

Sara Mosle and Robert Coles are two individuals who become exposed to volunteerism because of specific circumstances yet they also encounter issues of extraordinary mismatch throughout their work. The term “mismatch,” has been applied to biological, psychological and social settings; regardless of the scenario, the outcomes of a mismatch can potentially do more harm than good. Mosle, a middle-aged white woman and journalist residing in a well off neighborhood in New york, becomes a mentor for several children from low-income communities. Coles, a white psychiatrist, pursues an in-depth study of school desegregation through observations of black youth organizations during the Civil Rights era. Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to help people. Being a Boy Scout gave me the opportunity to do so. When I was eight years old I joined the cub scouts which began my life long campaign of helping people. I started off learning to take the oath to serve the people weather it be by the organization or myself. I assisted by selling popcorn for charity organizations ( The San Antonio Food Bank and The Knights of Columbus) or for money that we needed for our camp out trips.…

At a young age, I was taught to do things for the greater good, my family has always given back whether it is donating food and clothes or adopting a family for Christmas. Growing up I have received assistance because at times my mother and I needed help so I personally know how much of an impact a small act of kindness can have and that is why I decided to join the Bakersfield Police Explorer program, which is community service based volunteer work. Getting into this program required various steps such as entrance testing, background check, and an interview. I wanted to be apart of this program as a way to test the waters of a career in law enforcement, helping out in the community, and to develop as a person.…

I volunteered at the Forest Mall for the Tootsie Roll Drive. This organization provides service for those people with intellectual disabilities. What I physically did while volunteering at the Forest Mall was hand out Tootsie Rolls outside to the people that donated money. I also would kindly ask people to donate as they came in or out of the mall. I kept a kind and loving smile on my face to welcome anyone who was willing to donate.…

This is so fundamentally human that it’s found in every culture without exception.”, which reminds me of a memory that I would never talk about it; 2008, China. An earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.9, took place in Sichuan province. As the result, thousands of people died innocently. Later, the city’s government started to organize donations and most people were willing to help, making me very relieved. From my perspective, kindness is all about integrity, honesty, generosity, moral courage, etc.…

My mom and I were at the dollar store and the carts have a pole so you can’t take them out of the store, when walking outside the door I noticed a lady trying to get the cart out the door so I went back knowing the cart had to stay inside and I asked if she would like help with carrying her things to the car. As I helped the lady with her items she thanked me numerous times and was very grateful. This made me feel like I was a good person for helping her because if I just let her struggle to get her things to the car I wouldn’t have been able to stop regretting it. This kind deed made me want to do more kind deeds for people, looking for nothing in return but the gratefulness of them.…

The concept of “bad” volunteering is unfortunately a sad reality and the differences amongst volunteering and voluntourism is very clear. I believe that volunteering and voluntourism are so vastly different they shouldn’t be categorized as the same, shouldn’t be marketed as the same program, and should not be associated with the same “work”. A volunteer should not be associated with voluntourism as its connotation is that the “tourism” aspect has taken over the “volunteer”. Individuals whose focus is on self-fulfillment rather than a commitment to learning, and developing a relationship with the community they are visiting - has given “volunteers” a bad image. As a volunteer, you aren’t present to be the savior of an underprivileged community,…

For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of enjoying the college atmosphere. While attending Ooltewah High School, I realized that my education in both school, and the Word of God, will help me further pursue my dreams. Where others see the work and stressful nights, and homework as a chore, I only see excitement. Even as a child, I constantly sought it out, first looking up different schools, then seeking different majors, then later in person appearing in every campus open house I could find. College in all its forms fascinated me, but schools that brought me closer to the Lord were in a category all to themselves.…

If only there would have been more people volunteering, then so much more people could have been helped. And if more people can be help, then the suffering on earth can be ease. The big problem is that everyone is so busy with their personal life that they forget about the importance of helping others. I believe they are making a big impact on every person they touched and made it a task to spread their kindness.…
