Personal Narrative: I Am A Vegetarian

Moving boxes up and down three flights of stairs, rearranging the whole kitchen, dusting every inch of the basement, setting up storage, setting up the buffet; today had been an at home workout. My mom and I had been cleaning our house all day long, although I still felt full of energy. Although my mouth was still watering at the thought of a veggie burger loaded with avocado, sautéed onions, american cheese, lettuce, tomato, on a toasted hamburg roll after we finished. My mom on the other hand was cranky, annoyed, agitated, and exhausted from cleaning; from just dusting the oak buffet in the dinning room to cleaning the whole house like today my mom easily would become tired after just five minutes of cleaning, then complain the rest …show more content…
It 's my most dreaded conversation on why I 'm a vegetarian. Some even argue with me to eat meat again. They 'll ask me questions like, "Where do you get your protein"; then I 'll answer them with beans, lentil, oatmeal, yogurt, and nuts; even that answer doesn 't seem to satisfy them. I could question them about their cholesterol since they think red meat is the only place to get their protein. One time she cooked meat sauce without telling me; I spilled it onto my pasta, so right before taking my first bite I realized there was meat in it. My older brother, Tommy, is the definition of healthy. He could work out all day long with no problem. Although he may be the healthiest person I know, he 's not a nutritionist by far. Tommy did not believe I was getting enough nutrition in my diet; He thought I would become weak and ill after a few weeks of the diet. He sure was surprised when months of the diet later I was healthier than ever. Tommy was even more surprised when I could easily workout at the gym for two hours without collapsing. He would say stuff like, "You must be eating meat sometimes" or "Soon you 'll be tired and exhausted all the time from this diet" but I have not had meat in a year and I am still full of energy with no meat. The way my family argues with me about eating meat you would think we were arguing over politics or religion. Now I try to avoid any conversation about my vegetarian diet whether it 's new people I meet or family; that way it keeps me out of

Furthermore, according to a research by Jim Motavalli in which he examined the contradiction of vegetarianism, he put forward that environmental strategy and priorities are broader and more flexible, while animal rights’ strategy and priorities were narrower and often more alienating in their absolutism. Unlike animal rights advocates, many environmentalists are easier to be satisfied diet-wise if people just collectively reduced meat consumption, rather than a wholly vegan diet. This is because environmentalists, who tend to protect wild animals, are not primarily motivated by sentimentalism or compassion over the suffering of individual non-human animals. He concluded that the environmental movement should begin to more openly acknowledge…

In January, 2000 Laura Fraser wrote the article “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian” for Salon magazine. Fraser is an author published in several national magazines including The New York Times, Vogue, and O: the Oprah magazine. Attempting to reach an audience of either new or long term vegetarians/vegans, Fraser discusses her journey of changing her vegetarian lifestyle of 15 years to quitting entirely. She happened to write this article in the beginning of the year while most are advancing their new year's resolutions. Perhaps she was trying to convince newly vegetarians or vegans not to continue with their resolutions, or maybe it was all just a coincidence of timing.…

While already a vegetarian, reading Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma allowed me to reexamine and thus reinforce my rationale for those choices: I have been a vegetarian since birth, so often times that choice is a passive one. There is a surplus of healthy options available for me without much active effort on my part, as a good portion of my family, immediate and extended, is vegetarian. In the modern age, the claim that humans need meat for optimal survival is unsubstantiated; in fact, a conscious vegetarian diet has been shown to have health benefits as well as environmental benefits.…

Two processed foods that I enjoy eating are doritos and cheese curls. I examined the labels and discovered that cheese curls contain two grams of sugar per serving and 290 milligrams of sodium per serving. Doritos contain one gram of sugar per serving and 180 milligrams of sodium per serving. Most of the ingredients in these snacks are artificial or chemical. I have never thought about what ingredients were in the snacks, or thought about looking at the labels before I eat the food.…

One Saturday afternoon, my fiancé came home sweating profusely from playing basketball and asks, “Babe, teach me how to cook curry chicken, pleaseeee.” I responded, “You’re kidding right? Let’s learn how to boil water first.” Both of us laugh, however, I notice that he is serious so I obliged to his wants. After he showered, we we’re en route of the meat market.…

I come from a poor family. I never had brand-name shoes or video games, or even a Lisa Frank binder and stickers like my friends at school, but I always had plenty of food in the fridge at home. My family never went hungry in spite of the fact that we were raised by a single mother who made her living as a coffee shop waitress. I did not know, till I was a teenager, that my mom bought the majority of our groceries with food stamps. It never seemed odd to me that she went to the grocery store one time a month and stocked up on milk, sugar, lunchmeat, chicken legs, hamburger meat, and most importantly, coffee.…

For as long I can remember my family was always on the look out for organic/GMO-free food, so when I came home to a pack of meat in my freezer with a kosher label on it, I didn't question it. That was until July 10th 2015, my mothers birthday where my family gets a chance to have dinner together. A variety selection of food was on the table but there seemed to be a lot of grilled chicken left over, so I go ahead and offer everyone piece. My brother gladly took one, my mom and I split one but my sister and dad refuse to take a piece. I ask them why not only to find out my dad and sister are vegan.…

Laughter has been said to be the best medicine of all. This medicine, however, cannot cure the effectiveness of an argument and instead can be seen to poison it in some cases. In Laura Fraser’s “Why I Stopped Being a Vegetarian,” Fraser depicts personal incidents of dabbling in vegetarianism and uses this to assert that people should not be vegetarian and instead decrease the amount of meat consumed. Though humor may then seem to be the appropriate method of conveying her opinion, it is often detrimental towards her argument because it causes her ideas to seem nonsensical and often apathetic towards those who wholeheartedly believe in vegetarianism.…

Have you ever been so happy you cried? Well I have! When I was eight years old, there was a pizza shop called Not Just Pizza a few blocks away from my house. My childhood friends, Joey, Cam, and my brother, Dylan, and I went to this pizza shop every Friday night. Ironically, the pizza was awful, and every time we went, we had ice cream instead of pizza.…

vegan is the ultimate, hard-core vegetarian. Someone who follows a vegan diet avoids eating, drinking, wearing, using, or otherwise consuming anything that contains animal ingredients or that was tested on animals. This means a vegan eats pretty much everything except dairy from cows, sheep, or goats, (or horses, if you’re ever visiting Mongolia), cheese, milk, butter, eggs, meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, or honey. In this chapter, you discover the vast health benefits of a vegan diet, what vegan living entails, and how to deal with the common (and often ignorant) questions that people will likely ask you about your lifestyle choice.…

Lifestyle Superiority The debacle between omnivorous and vegetarian diets has been in effect for several years trying to determine which diet is superior to the other, and there are many factors that contribute to each. The omnivorous diet consists of consuming both meat and plant-based foods for a “well-balanced” diet. This diet allows for the consumer to gain necessary proteins and vitamins to help the body function and grow. It also helps in the process of muscle growth and health. A vegetarian diet is comprised of plant-based meals, cutting out any meats from ordinary diets.…

On the second day my lunch was not typical because I went out with my friend, but other than lunch, my breakfast, dinner and snacks were typical. On the first day I went over my recommended calorie consumption by 371 calories but for having 2.5 hours of rowing that day I think that I didn’t eat to many calories compared to all of the calories I burned.
