The Importance Of Being A Learner In Physics

Improved Essays
In the beginning of the semester in the physics course, we were asked to write an essay on what it means to be a learner in physics. I wrote about the importance of being a good listener. I then discussed the importance of being prepared for class and coming in with a willingness to learn, as well as starting class with an open mind to learning outside one’s comfort zone and taking risks. Amongst a few other things, I mentioned that becoming a successful learner requires effort and dedication. These ideas I started off with were put to the test throughout the semester in the physics course. As the semester neared to an end, I realized I learned more than just physics in that course, I learned a lot about myself as a learner and as an individual. …show more content…
For me, this meant going to see a tutor. For some people, this is a simple task. This proved to be not so simple for me because I tend to think I can figure things out on my own and often shy away from asking for help. I guess I can say that asking for help is one of my weaknesses. I actually took the physics course twice because the first time I denied the fact that I needed help and I did not go see a tutor. As my grades in that class were plummeting, I just kept telling myself I will figure it out on my own. After all, I never had to see a tutor for any other of my classes and I always made satisfactory progress. When that first semester of physics ended, I was left scratching my head at my disappointing grade. When I made the …show more content…
The importance of being a good listener in the physics class still applies to my career as I know I will be working with patients and other healthcare team members. The importance of being prepared to class and coming in with a willingness to learn and with an open mind to learning outside my comfort zone taught me a great deal outside the classroom. I will now apply those principles to my career. I will come to work prepared with a strong willingness to learn more and go out of my comfort zone. Asking for help within the physics class improved my interaction and communication skills with others. In turn, this improvement will be beneficial to me at this job amongst my co-workers. Asking for help from others when I 'm not sure about something is going to be crucial, especially in the healthcare field. As I mentioned earlier, being a successful learner required effort and dedication. Both effort and dedication are needed in order to be a successful employee and a successful health care provider. It is safe to say that Physics 221 course taught me much more than Newton’s Laws and kinematic equations. I am confident that it taught me how to be a successful student as well as a successful

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

I know after taking this course that I can somewhat write a well written essay that is college appropriate. In high school I was taught to write essay that were good enough for the teachers, but now that I’m in college I feel the need that I need to write better and show my instructor that I do know what I am writing about. I’ve learned so many ways to write a paper, but some of my essays aren’t there yet, I feel as if I haven’t gotten to the point where I’ve learned to write a paper that is good, but I know within time I’ll get there.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

He served in the Korean War, and was a world traveler.…

Over the first several weeks of school I have had the rewarding experience of being involved with the fast-track English 111 class provided by my high school and local community college. I have gained experience in managing deadlines, juggling prompts, meeting various criteria, and learning what it truly is that makes writing both correct and brilliant. Coming into this class, I truly lacked a general understanding of proper writing. I wasn’t able to write in MLA format, let alone understand how to execute a process-analysis method, or correct sentence structure. In these past few weeks alone I feel that I have developed as a writer and overall student, know having at least a grasp, if not broader knowledge, on how to produce quality, college-equivalent writing that has exceeded me past an amateur level.…

My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom.…

The start of the year I have grown in my writing and grammar skills in ELA 10. I have been challenged a lot this year from my teacher on different types of writing processes and different types of writing pieces. In the beginning of the year I used to struggle and have a really bad procrastination on my writing where I would basically just write what came to mind and I meaninglessly put it down on paper. Functioning through and looking back at old pieces of writing I sense if I put my mind to it and not fool around my writing would definitely improve. I've ingenious my strengths and weaknesses this year and to examine all my work I have seen how much I have changed since the beginning.…

It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. Final Exam: 1. The quote, “Classroom management is 90% of the job. As their teacher, I should have high expectations and plan accordingly.…
