In order, to become a proficient writer, a number of obstacles and lessons have to be learned. Many people are never formally taught how to write, format and outline a paper. Therefore, their writings often are choppy, lack a voice and meaning. It is not a simple task to write a paper, let alone incorporating aspects of academic, informative, persuasive and scientific writings. However, over the course of this semester, my writings have become more personal, more thought out and carry a clearer message. Prior to College Composition I, I was under the impression that many of my writings were proficient and as we begin to conclude this semester, I have noticed that assumption was incorrect. The reason why I have made such great strides in my …show more content…

The objective of these is to make the writer understand that writings are composed through a variety of non-linear activities that embody the idea of progressively adding changes for students to make their writing their own. In my opinion, this was one of the most important lessons that I learned this semester. In the past, when I would write papers I would procrastinate until the night before the due date of the assignment and produce sub-par rough drafts that I would then turn-in and call my final drafts. Although, I have to put a little extra work into the assignments; doing some pre-planning, and outlining. I feel that the paper becomes more thought out and easier to …show more content…
When I analyze the text in my paper, I look for rhetorically aspects and look to make the text portray the message I want. From College Composition and past English classes, I have progressively learned that writing is a social communicative act that involves the creation of a purposeful message for a perceived audience. Depending on a number of varying situations, an audience may have different expectations for the writer. Meaning, that not all papers are written for the same audience. Many elements of writing are essential in writing an academically savvy paper. Notably, on element is understanding the role of information literacy. When I write my ideas and interpretations, I try to provide both evidence and illustrations for reader to further conceptualize the ideas that I have made. As I continue to incorporate these two strategies into my writing, I will be able to further back my point of view, show the reader that I grasp the concept and provide a basis of where my ideas are coming

Just like the previous chapters, there are many useful tips that can be used while writing an academic paper. It’s always important to have a purpose for your paper whether it be to explain some phenomenon or a controversial argument, demanding that your side on a possibly sensitive subject be taken. Always consider your audience, which will most likely always be educated as your professor will be the one to read and grade said paper, and while they are your audience, they are also there to provide you with the necessary help to make your paper great. Responses are not my strong point and that is something I will need to work on. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different.
