Many of us today have lots of bad things that happen in our lives. Some people have horrific things that happen to them and the move on. Others may take and have small things happen to them. In this quote "The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain." -Colin Wilson, I think that Wilson is trying to say that there are times in our lives when that people have horrible things happen to them and there isn’t a whole lot that they can do about it, the person just takes it over and over, and never does a thing about it. I agree with this statement because I see it happening all the time. It actually happens to me. Many things are just left alone and people don’t bother to ask if the person is okay. Sometimes I see this is no one cares about the person. The people need to learn to stand up for themselves. Because if they don’t then they are doing to one day take their own lives if they don’t talk about it or …show more content…
Some can deal with these problems and others won’t be able to. People need to be able to stand up to these problems or have someone that will be there for them. It will make our lives and their lives better. I know that once I found someone to love me and be there for me all the time I feel so much stronger now I have there. But when I didn’t I felt like the world was coming down on me. With her I feel invincible. People like us need them. Taylor has had similar problems but I know in the end that we will always be there for each other. No matter what it is grieving or not. We all have problems every single one of us do rather it’s something small or big problems. "The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain." -Colin Wilson. There are things that will happen in your life and you just have to deal with those things. Find a way to fix those problems or deal with those no matter

Growing up on a ranch changes people; not only physically but down in your soul. This lifestyle teaches you to appreciate the little things in life. When you don’t come from much and you work hard for what you have it makes you look at the world in a different light. This was the case for the main character in “Ranch Girl” by Maile Meloy; life on the ranch shaped her. The circumstances of her life have made her staunch, melancholy, and apathetic.…

“The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain.” by Colin Wilson has a very strong meaning to it. Wilson is challenging the average man by stating that what he does is insufficient and that the average man should do more. He says that the average man just accepts it when bad things happen to him and he doesn’t do anything about it.…

Aschenbach 1 Avery Aschenbach Mr. Thompson English 11 12 November 2014 Analysis of Transcendental Writers Thoughts On Rebelling Against Societal Conformity Henry David Thoreau and others who rebel against the norm of societal conformity must accept the consequences that entail. During the Transcendentalist era of writing, writers such as Henry David Thoreau, Walt Whitman, and Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote about demonstrating how an individual must rebel against societal conformity in order to seize the day, but yet willingly accept the consequences it entails. Whitman and Emerson did not take as much action upon their teachings and writings as Thoreau did. Thoreau was the only one who stood up for what he believed in and really took actions…

My Access #2 There could be a lot of meanings to the quote by Colin Wilson. There could be different experiences, and also some different views on what the quote is trying to tell us. Many people might not understand the quote because they don’t know what it’s like to actually come back from failure because they had everything given to them. What I get from the quote by Colin Wilson is that average humans are used to being in some bad situations because they don’t want to try their hardest.…

Hopeless Humanity An Analysis of a Colin Wilson Quote Colin Wilson was once quoted as saying, "The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain. " While this quote can be interpreted many different ways, like most quotes, I think that Wilson is trying to say humans sometimes lose hope and let whatever happens happen to them. Most of the time this Wilson quote rings surprisingly true when you examine the average life of a normal human being. In some cases, we see individuals with an abundance of perseverance and determination that will stop at nothing to get what they believe they deserve.…

American essayist and social critic H.L Mencken wrote, “The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe. What I found interesting is that conforming to social norms and trying to meet expectations while learning proper gender roles sometimes have detrimental effects on both, men and women. Males are expected to be strong, competitive, aggressive and should repress their feelings and emotions, which can result in boys’ misbehavior at school and home and increase a possibility of reckless behavior, suicide and involvement in criminal activity in a future. Likewise, females have high societal expectations that cause stress and psychological disorders. What I found somewhat confusing is if sexuality is socially constructed, then why transgender people do not feel comfortable with their own bodies or why homosexuals are attracted to people of the…

If a person has faced an adversity in their life, there is always something important about it which creates the person’s character or breaks it.
