For many years, the U.S has been known to be a country that thrives on democracy. In other words, the U.S most closely resembles a democratic regime. However, many now believe this to be false. The U.S is now being viewed an authoritarian regime. The U.S. still possesses democratic ideals. It does not possess any aspect of an authoritarian regime.

Regimes are much more complex than states and governments. Regimes are often perceived in a negative way. In an article titled, “Democratic Dictatorship: The Transition towards Authoritarian rule in America, the author, Robert P. Abele, makes his argument through Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Four freedoms”. The first freedom is freedom of speech and expression. One of the points that Abele makes is that “ Without privacy in sharing our thoughts with others, There is neither freedom of speech nor of association” (Abele, Robert P., Dr. "“Democratic Dictatorship”: The Transition towards Authoritarian Rule in America." He uses the third freedom, “Freedom of want, especially economic want” to make the point that people who make very high salaries such as Mark Zuckerburg from Facebook or Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple.His main point is that this freedom stated by Roosevelt represents economic equality but these individuals are making way more money than average citizens. All of these points being made are valid points. However, just because one individual makes more money than another, that doesn’t mean that one should go as far as to say that the U.S. is developing into an authoritarian regime. Those individuals just took advantage of the freedoms that the U.S offers.
