I believe that people are the same even though their age varies over time. Little things may change an individual’s behavior and values, but overall, everyone keeps his or hers personality the same. Communication Mosaics 7e book defines the word “attribution” as an act that explains why a person behaves a particular way and what things change the person’s behavior. Many external and internal factors affect individual’s way of acting and thinking. My personal path has been very interesting and I have learned from many mistakes over the years. My point of view is that mistakes are part of growing up and understanding life from a different perspective. In the past few years I have had many learning experiences and I have been forced to appreciate …show more content…
She has never been a horrible person, but the way she has treated my family is not something I understand. My parents have given and helped out her family many ways, either with money or personal support. My aunt was really upset with my father a few years ago and she took her frustration out on my siblings and me. Her behavior was really disrespectful to us and I am not able to think highly of her ever again.

I met one of my friends five years ago. My first impression of her was great; everyone liked her and believed she was a great person. In the past year my point of view of her has changed drastically. She was a nice girl, but something changed in her behavior towards other people. She was not nice to my other friends and weird drama was always around her. I am still friends with her, but I know that I have to be very careful with her. Unfortunately, I have lost a close friend because of her different and ignorant behavior.

Stereotypes affect an individual’s behavior. I remember meeting my best friend for the first time. I knew she was not really a “liked person” and I thought that she was too full of herself and her opinions were really strong. After getting to know her better, I did find her real personality. She is the most caring person that I have ever met! It is crazy how some people are not giving the best first impression, but they turn out to be wonderful

Negative attitudes and stereotypes are a part of society; they become bigger issues when these thoughts and beliefs turn into actions, such as discrimination and aggression. Over the last decade strides have been made to change societal ideals and norms but research shows discrimination among particular groups remains high. The results of a study done by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force shows that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community experience high rates of discrimination and violence (Grant et al., 2011). Theories on the formation of attitudes and stereotypes include Social Learning, Social Cognition, Implicit Association. Stereotypes are everywhere in the world. Our ridged expectations of a community are sometimes all we know about that certain group. The students had a preconceived idea about the Harvard students being snobby and the Law students thought the students would not take the task seriously. This chapter really hit on many stereotypes throughout the chapter and how powerful it can be when stereotypes are broken. I would never think to take my class on a field trip to a courthouse to participate in a mock trial.…

In a society many people have different expectations for girls and boys, from weight to intelligence. Perspective three states, “As a whole, parents hold different standards for their kids based on gender, but it's not done consciously”. Society just has the assumption that girls need to be skinny because they are girls, and that guys should be smart because they are boys. This statement is more accurate than perspective one which talks about how parents worry about their daughters being overweight more than their sons because girls can be more cruel. This doesn't really give the reason for parents wanting their sons to be more smart.…

Ordinarily I would not be enthusiastic to read an excerpt like Whistling Vivaldi and Other Clues to How Stereotypes Affect Us by Claude M. Steele, but on the contrary, I found that I was extremely impacted, this reading opened my eyes to an infinite amount of possibilities that I had not been worried about before. There were multiple sections of this reading that was baffling, I choose to write about a passage that dumbfounded me completely, I found this on page four of the excerpt under chapter 2 about 7 paragraphs in and it states “I became an expert in the language of fear. Couples locked arms or reached for each other’s hand when they saw me. Some crossed to the other side of the street. People who were carrying on conversations went mute…
