When I visited the school, it struck me that all the students were very polite, neatly dressed, involved in many activities and most notably,

Every apartment is so different from the last: whether it is a small brownstone or a new apartment in tall multi-story buildings, each place offers a unique quirk and challenge as well as a new perspective of Jersey City. On election night, I watched the Empire State Building out my window light up red or blue every time a state was called.

While it is not easy to live in a home that is not mine, I often remind myself about my decision years ago. Events such as winning an individual event at county championships, selling hot dogs at a Operation Smile fundraiser barbeque, or even just making conversation with my friends in the morning, remind me that the sacrifices I make are worth it. It often gives me a chance to step out of my comfort zone that I have benefitted greatly from.

Four years later, I am one of the suited-up seniors leading tours at the Prep Open House. At another crossroad in my life, I must choose, not the best school, but the right one. In some ways, I am just like that middle schooler

I, on the other hand, wake up over 2 hours early to drive 15 miles to Loyola High School so that I can pursue my academic interests. The flicker of a lamp powered by a dimly lit lightbulb flashed in intervals onto the cracked concrete path. Scattered shrub shavings, dried pine needles, and petrified insects encrusted the crevices left in between the cement squares. The long and narrow path led up to a strong yet aged wooden door that stood at the foot of the house. The house held nine people, three cats, and many tribulations to come. At first glance the house might’ve seemed ordinary; it had five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, living room, kitchen etc.…

I have applied to Saint Ignatius College Prep for several reasons. One reason that I applied was because of the diverse community that exists within the school. Even though there are hundreds of kids per grade, everyone seems to know each other and everyone gets along very well. While I was shadowing at the school, I experienced this first hand. I spend my Sunday mornings with frenetic kindergartners. On the first day of the week, the only thing that motivates me to get up before 9 AM is my volunteering position as a teacher’s assistant in Bridgewater Chinese School. The day before I must submerge myself into the sea of high schoolers, I choose to step into the chaos of elementary school. About a quarter of the way through the school year, as I entered the list of red As and Bs into the gradebook, I noticed that one student, Chloe, was getting grades significantly lower than her classmates. Chloe was the smallest kindergartner, the one who carefully positioned her Ariel and Belle princess figurines on her desk before getting out her books, the one who spent most of class undoing and redoing her curly hazel pigtails, and often the last one to toddle up to my desk to hand in the weekly quiz, when the…
