Katrin Robertson once wrote that “Engagement in the arts offers a wonderful starting point for parents who want to develop and exercise their children’s creative problem-solving skills” (The Arts and Creative Problem Solving). This suggests that exercising a child’s brain can very well be done in arts classes. The arts are an excellent challenge for students mentally and physically. This can boost the student’s problem-solving skills. This is significant because having the ability to solve a problem in real life is crucial. Not many students, or people in fact, have that ability. So, when they face a problem, they do not know how to solve it. In addition, “those in the arts curriculum were far superior in creative thinking, self-concept, problem-solving, self-expression, risk-taking, and cooperation than those who were not” (The Importance of Fine Arts Education). This stands to reason that students who are involved in the arts curriculum use far more of their brain power and skills than in any other class. This is important because with being able to have all of those attributes, students are more likely to do well in their classes and any other area of their life where they learn.
