We are constantly risking ourselves for our art. That being said, the benefit is much larger than the loss. How many times a week are artists asked what their “backup” or “real job” is? How often are we questioned on our choice to pursue an education “only” to walk away with a degree in arts. How frequently do artists fake a smile as they politely defend their profession. I will gladly fake as many smiles as it takes for people to realize that my art is not just for me. I do not dance for money, or to support a family, or even solely because its what I want to do. I dance to inspire others, I dance to express my individuality, and I dance to connect. Art is a connection as much as it is an expression. As an artist I will use my personal creativity to connect with other induvials. Through dance I will bridge gaps in culture, religion, and society. For around 5 years now, my father an I have been saving money in order to finance a 3-month long road trip across the country. Beginning in June, we will be visiting as many states and I will be attending as many company auditions as I possibly can. I have researched companies that hold open auditions and specifically in the summer. My list is constantly growing. Some companies I plan to audition for include: Koresh Dance Company, JChen Project, Repertory Dance Theatre, Contemporary Dance Theatre, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Core Contemporary Dance, Salt Contemporary Dance, and Keigwin + Company. I have taken classes with all of the previously listed companies in the past. As of now, my list is up to 30 dance companies spanning across 25 different U.S states. My hopes for this road trip is that the more companies I audition for, the higher my chances of one of them wanting me
