Meaningful pieces such as Shakespeare are banned because the people in their society would not remotely understand it. This is because the stories written by Shakespeare are based on elements that do not exist in the World State. In the real world, we use art to express ourselves and we are very passionate about it. Our society has countless amounts of movies, books, paintings, songs, and so on that people put hard work into and are proud of. However, I have noticed that today, art is not as well thought out as it used to be. In particular, movies nowadays seem to follow a formula, and they contain more irrelevant and inappropriate content that a lot of people find to be funny. Old movies do not have those features, instead, they have more meaningful storylines. It was not easy to produce mass amounts of films back then like it is today, and because of that, society is now focusing on quantity over quality. The more movies being made, the more profit companies will receive, despite the fact that they may not be very spectacular. Like Mustapha Mond’s philosophy, newness is more important than value, which is exactly what movie producers are thinking. For example, they are more concerned about the special effects and making sure films are in high definition, instead of focusing on the actual storyline.
