My initial curiosity was sparked a year ago, when I received an email from the Director of Admissions in regards to the minority recruitment program. After reading various reviews and what this school stood for, I was sold. The welcoming environment and passion to serve others aligns with my internal values of seeing a brighter tomorrow. As an individual who attended four mission trips to serve in other countries, I have personally seen the potential one person can make in the lives of many. Patient Care Assistant: I am currently a caregiver for Dr. J.R. Harding. This is a paid position where I have accumulated roughly 180 hours to date. He is a two-time quadriplegic which requires me to perform catheterizations, dressings, showering, feeding, and lifting him to and from his wheelchair. I also join him in business and his vacation trips when taken to provide these services.
5. Dance Marathon: I have volunteered with Dance Marathon for a total of 24 hours. As a volunteer I would aid with regulating the event by helping set up and tear down stations, providing water to dancers, keeping track of participants, and fulfilling any nonspecific role as needed by staff and First Responders. Dance Marathon functions to raise funds for the local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Shands Children’s Hospital, and the FSU College of Medicine.
6. Broward General Hospital: I have volunteered with the Children’s Medical Service (CMS) Department for an unspecific amount of hours as my mother works there. I haven’t officially documented my visits due to the sporadic time I would spend there, but during my visits I would sit in with doctors as they attended numerous children with special needs.
