Discharge process is one of the most important pieces of a hospital stay because here patients become responsible of their own care.in this case the patients are given instructions on how to get better. This is done by scheduling follow up appointments and taking of medication. The information that is given to the patient is very crucial in relation to their outcome yet it is extremely overwhelming for a patient to comprehend and remember. Most of the patients are usually obstructed during this process due to anxiety of getting out of the hospital and get to their homes. Ethical, economic, legal, and political issues are some of the factors that adversely affect Patient 's dissatisfaction with discharge instructions.

A health care provider is supposed to ensure patients follow up so as to know the progress of the recovering patient. It becomes unethical when the nurse fails to make a follow up. A failure of coordination within the various departments in the hospital also results in delay in discharge process of the patient and leads to patient dissatisfaction.
Economic issue is another factor that can lead to patient discharge dissatisfaction in the sense that when nurses are not allocated enough funds to conduct post discharge follow up, they tend to assume this role and in the event patients end up not receiving follow ups. In the case where a patient did not fully understand the issued discharge instructions the patients will forever live with the errors made and a time could be catastrophic.
Lack of proper communication in a patient discharge can result in unexpected medical errors. Medical errors that occur after discharge can result in post hospital adverse events, re admission or death. Readmission of patients after discharged is very costly and has economic impact to both the patient and the hospital. If it is established that the error was as a result of poor communication from the care giver then the hospital is liable for all the treatment
