The Importance Of Anthropometrics In Product Design

Great Essays
1. Introduction

Anthropometrics is a Greek term meaning “man measure”. To appreciate anthropometrics you must be able to understand how you can relate your own body features to others in terms of: size, shape, strength etc. Anthropology is not just restricted to biological features such as: human nature, evolution or genetic, it is also concerned with the social aspects of live. Aspects such as religion, politics and languages are elements that are not always associated with anthropometrics.

In today’s world, anthropometrics plays a crucial role in Product Design. The data that is collected from investigations such as this one allow designers to incorporate their designs so the product can be used in a safe and effective style. With ever

When the investigation took place, the participants may have been tired, lazy or they may have read the readings incorrectly which could all lead to inaccurate data. From table 2, it can be identified that for all measurements the male’s averages are significantly larger than the female’s. Various reasons could explain this difference: genetics, evolution or the fact there was twenty-two males and only six females present. This severe lack of female presence was not a fair judgement on the investigation as a whole. With more females the statistics may have been …show more content…
Human error plays a crucial role when using mechanical devices as one could easily misread the data and record the incorrect figure.

4.2.2) The age range.
This investigation was dealing with twenty-nine participants ranging from ages between 18-20. If this investigation was to be done again, a wider spectrum of ages would benefit this investigation procedure as the data collected would include different measurements due to age which affects human body measurements. A human will constantly grow until the age of twenty-five (approximately) and from that age the heights and measurements will begin to decrease.

4.3) Other factors that can lead to inaccurate results

Apart from the obvious factors, age, gender and tiredness, there are some other factors that could undoubtedly affect this investigation. Ethnics is a main reason for potential inaccuracy in data investigations.

For example, the Irish and British are relatively the same when it comes to the anthropometric data but if there was to be a population from The Netherlands, they would distort the results due to their above average height. A population from Vietnam would also distort the results due to their below average

What the Results Mean: The content was analyzed to find out the power structures in each song and the difference in how individuals of the upper and lower rank identify themselves/others/society. It is found that the narrator in “Royals” is being oppressed due to the influence of popular media and the narrator in “Blank Space” is the oppressor in which she manipulates others and the situation. In addition, it is also found that people from the lower rank identify themselves more or less a “puppet” of the constructs of knowledge and identify others or society as religious followers of these norms. On the other hand, it is found that people of the upper class identify themselves as more superior than others and see others and society as followers of their rules and manipulation.…

The results highlighted a correlation, but we are not quite sure if the results yielded a causation. The arithmetic mean for the control group is 29.048. This signifies that in 2 minutes, the average subject tested scored 29 out of a total 36 or an 80.68% percent accuracy. On the other hand, the average for the our experiment group, the subjects give gatorade, is 30.524 or an 84.78 percent accuracy. The results slightly improved for the experiment, but it is highly unlikely that this is due to the actual gatorade consumption.…

Every one of the participants were male understudies who all fit in with the same age group. This implies that the study needs population validity and that the outcomes can't be summed up to females or more seasoned groups of individuals. Another issue is that the experiment utilized a simulated errand to quantify conformity judging line lengths. This implies that study has low natural validity and the outcomes can't be summed up to other genuine circumstances of conformity. I likewise believe that there are ethical issues: participants were not shielded from psychological anxiety which may happen in the event that they couldn't help contradicting the majority.…

According to Drew Humphries (1999), congenital defects among babies born of crack/cocaine mothers has been a heavily debated topic since the issue came about in the late twentieth century. Some reports classified cocaine as a teratogenic drug that has serious birth defects while others say the effects are not as severe. One theory suggests that cocaine effects the central nervous system “where it alters the production of neurotransmitters, which in turn may interfere with tissue growth in the fetal central nervous system” (p. 54-55). Another theory suggests that, because cocaine is a vasoconstrictor, once it crosses the placenta, “it constricts the fetal vascular system, cutting off oxygen, nutrients, and blood supply necessary for the normal development of organs and tissue … and with it risk of internal bleeding or infection” (p. 55). Human studies were done and found that four birth defects were caused most frequently.…
