Amnesty International
Task 1:
A. Torture is inhumane way of purposely hurting another person which includes getting your body joints drilled, electric shocks, cigarette burns and being whipped. It is also a breach of Article 5 of the Universal Declarations of human rights, by people like the NIDA protesters being tortured by the Azerbaijani government their rights to freedom and to live a happy life have been taken away. 80% percent of brazil's population feel that if the were imprisoned they would be beaten/tortured whereas only 15% of the UK population feels they would be tortured if they were taken into custody of the countries authorities. In a recent study it says that a massive 72% of the world torture, that means 72% of the world is

Evaluation: I feel my creative vision and drive combined with Michaela and Stephanie’s creativeness and drive really helped the preparation process, this included the idea of taking photos with the community and the visual features of the board which included things like the pictures of the community holding the thumbs down and the map and flag of Azerbaijan.
Something i could've done better was researched more information about Amnesty International, N!DA and Azerbaijan so i was more prepared for the questions people were asking.

Task 3:
Another action i considered was a Car Wash this would've been a good idea because it would be a fun way to raise awareness and money for Amnesty International, I also feel we would have raised more money. However a weakness for our team was we only had 3 people so if we did the Car Wash it would have been a lot of hard work and would take a lot of time per car.

One more option we had was a bake sale, i liked this option because our group baking would be a lot of fun and would have made for a more enjoyable time promoting Amnesty International and N!DA we were also going to decorate the cupcakes/biscuits with the Amnesty International logo which would have advertised the cause. However this option had a few negative impacts like the fact that a large amount of other groups were doing this in the previous days and that my group aren't the best

When hearing about torture, whether on the news or in an article, we as Americans do not consider the lasting effects it has on people. Physical and psychological torture is mainly employed as war tactics, to get information out of people. Torture is not a concept that is talked about on a day to day basis, because of the many freedoms we experience as Americans. In the article The Case for Torture, Michael Levin portrays torture as something that should be permissible.…

The thesis of this essay is clear and ridiculous. The argument that public torture is a more suitable substitute to prison time is so inhumane and primitive; it makes me wonder whether or not the author is being sincere in his essay. He supports his arguments by listing victims of these severe punishments and the ordeals that they endured.…

Unfortunately, however, different forms of inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment as well as torture are practised in all parts of the world, including highly industrialised and developed countries. Despite the fact that society is evolving, the effect of torture remains the same: such violations of human rights result in serious harm to the human being, to his physical and mental immunity, and requires a lot of effort to make it stop. Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) says: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” . For many years international legal institutions have been developing, improving and consolidating different ways of resolving the problem. At…

Many societies use torture as way of extracting information from people who will not easily give up much needed information. Torture is a topic of controversy in our world and has been for years now. Although torture may work in some instances, studies repeatedly show over and over that it is not effective. Oftentimes, people will say anything and even provide incorrect information to stop the suffering. I have analyzed opinion articles such as Torture is Morally Reprehensible by Kim Petersen and Torture is Never Justified by Nikki Burgess.…

Desperate Times Would you ever hurt someone? What if hurting that someone meant that you would be seen as a hero amongst many? What if hurting someone meant that you were able to save innocent lives? What if hurting someone meant that you lost a piece of yourself and what it means to be human? `The topic at hand is if it is ever justifiable to torture someone under any circumstance.…

The United Nation convention defined torture as an act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person to obtain information from him or other. In the ancient Roma and Greece practiced torture for those who were found guilt. In Roma, slaves were torture for, as either witnesses or as the accused. “common punishments included crucifixion, mutilation, and the subjection of the allegedly guilty person to the appetites of wild animals in an arena” (History and Method). At the time of ancient Roma and Greece, the practice of torture has not change or eliminate even though the UN declaration of human rights agree that torture is a crime against humanity and is illegal, however, torture is still…

My last two years of high school, I joined the Multi-Cultural Leadership Club, I was rather reluctant to be honest but I grew to love it. My first year in the club we started off with raising money to go to the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference, (CCLC), at Western Oregon University. The CCLC is a conference where schools all over the state come to encourage kids to continue their education. To raise money we did car washes, sold clam chowder, and sold raffle tickets where we raffled off donated gift cards from a wide range of restaurants in our community. We were all competitive, trying to sell as many tickets as possible.…

I believe that Plan international has positively impacted human rights in many different ways around the world. For instance, Plan International invests the most money in education. They repair and build thousands of schools in many developing countries every year. I think this ensures children have the right to education because there would be more schools and so children would have access to them giving them the opportunity to attend. I am convinced that it would eliminate at least some slavery because every child, especially those who don’t have the opportunity to attend school would go if given the opportunity.…

When it comes to the topic of torture most of us will readily agree that it is morally wrong. Where this agreement usually ends however is on the question of terrorism. Whereas some are convinced that torture tactics should be used on a terrorist to gain valuable information, others maintain that false information can be received. In my own view, torture interrogation tactics should be considered when dealing with a terrorist threat because a terrorist performs acts of violence to achieve a specific political aim. A terrorist will put innocent lives in danger to achieve his political aim.…

Each and every government has their own way of controlling their citizens, some of the time, governments use excessive force to scare their citizens into compliance. There are many horror stories of governments torturing their citizens with methods of water boarding, caning, the death penalty, electric chairs, and taking away citizens rights to gun ownership as a punishment. With these methods governments are desensitizing their own citizens; making these controlling methods common and okay. Each government has its own laws and regulations about the fine lines between torture and interrogation, but do these regulations keep the morals of the citizens within the nation? Every citizen has their own rights that includes the right of life and the right to bear arms.…

The idea of torture can scare many people. In today’s world torture is now viewed as a thing of the past; a solution to our ancestor’s problems. Yet in reality, the dilemma whether torture should be used or not is still an issue. Many people would automatically say torture should not be allowed, until they are told millions of lives depend on it. Michael Levin is the person that made many readers second guess their answer to that simple, yet difficult question.…
