Reviewing the pledge we see the word “Allegiance,” which means love and devotion. By presenting the pledge to the flag, a symbol of our country, we are promising to the nation that we will be loving and devoted citizens we are promising that we are going to practice good ethics and citizenship. Allegiance is also our "obligation of fidelity and obedience to government in consideration for protection that government gives."(Lynn, Ken) What this is saying is that we state our duty and honor to obey and respect the law for the protection and rights it gives us, when we say the pledge. This pertains to being an ethical citizen, because people promise to fulfill and honor our duty to live by and honor the law. Without the pledge it is the parent’s duty to instill the responsibilities and the knowledge that their children have choices, and guide them to make the right ones. In the pledge we practice good ethics and we learn the right way to act, as well as learn from our parents and other instructors, but if the pledge becomes banned, youth have less of an opportunity to learn the values and responsibilities of a citizen, so it causes instructors to have more to teach the youth. This was when patriotism was desperately needed. At that time, adding the words were not a matter of transforming an anthem into a prayer, it was a matter of getting through some of America’s toughest times, with a half-full glass. the reason we say the pledge is to lift the country’s spirit as a whole, through the tough times we bear. The flag is a symbol of freedom as well as a symbol of hope. As the people of America, we know that wherever ‘Old Glory’ waves, there is respect, because our loyalty has given the flag dignity which shouts that freedom is a job that everyone has. Reviewing the pledge again, we see the words “With Liberty.” Liberty is freedom, or the right to live our own lives as we choose to live them, with no fears and no threats to bear. That phrase indicates to us that in this country we are safe, because as a country, those loyal to our country, such as ourselves, protect the country and the people in it. But how does this tie in with our nation’s heritage? Our nation’s heritage is the history of what our nation went through to make
