The men and women who choose to protect this country choose to leave their families behind in order to do so. The definition in Merriam-Webster dictionary ("Patriotism | Definition of patriotism by Merriam-Webster," n.d.) says, “love that people feel for their country”. These brave men and women choose to take an oath to defend the constitution of the United States and protect the land that they love. My husband for example is a Submariner in the United States Navy, he has to leave his family frequently for up to seven months in order to go and do his job and defend this country. Some of our brave men and women choose to run after serving in the military for many years, they can do this either the local, state or even federal level. For example when I was little my father ran for state office because he believed so strongly in upholding the Constitution and Bill of Rights. He had tried to enter the military when he was younger but had been denied due to medical issues so he instead turned to political office aspirations. Although he did not win the nomination he showed great patriotism that summer by supporting the Constitution and believing in the American way of
