The Importance Of Air Quality In Texas

Improved Essays
Air quality in Texas has significantly declined just in the past couple of years. Not only does air quality have negative effects on our planet, it has negative effects on individuals as well. Ozone is a big factor in the quality of the air we breathe. Ozone which is almost always referred to as smog is a gas that is formed in the atmosphere when three atoms of oxygen combined. Our main concern should be with the ground-level ozone. Ground-level ozone is created by the chemical reactions between oxides of nitrogen and volatile organic compounds in the presence of sunlight.
The outbursts from industrial facilities and electric utilities, motor vehicle exhaust, gasoline vapors, and chemical solvents are some of the major foundations of oxides

Atomic Energy Agency in 1967 had an idea to explode a nuclear bomb to unleash the gas, though that idea died quickly and a new one was made by Halliburton Corporation (Armstrong, Rachel.) They came up with an idea of high-volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing, better known as fracking. The process of fracking is taking anywhere from five to seven million gallons of water laced with sand and a startling menu of poisonous chemicals to crack the shale rock and release the methane gas trapped inside of it (Bowman, Charlie.) Essentially 'bombing' the shale with the massive pressures from pushing the sand and chemical laced water a mile or so down a well bore into the shale (Bowman, Charlie.) But fracking companies don’t just get their methane gas, they not only get their millions of gallons of wastewater back up with it.…

Hi, I’m Alexis Vo and I’m writing to you about an issue I am currently concerned about: damaging and polluting our surface waters. Recently in Texas, our state’s natural waters have been polluted which damaged our wildlife with toxins and trash. Due to the pollution, 9,400 miles of our streams and a total of 1,412,000 acres of lakes and bays in Texas alone has been considered “impaired”. Surprisingly, Caddo Lake is the only natural body of water left in East Texas that has not been yet polluted nor damaged.…

The main function of the ozone layer is “[to protect] living organisms from the harmful influence of short-wave ultraviolet solar radiation” (Vermishev and Danilov-Danilyan 360). However, many people have not realized the effects of their actions. Poor treatment of the atmosphere can lead to serious illness or even death. A recent study shows “fewer than 10 per cent of all deaths in North Staffordshire are caused by respiratory illnesses” (“Air Pollution” 21). If pollution habits continue to occur or increase, more illnesses will occur and more lives will be lost.…

Introduction It was my Junior year of high school, in both my AP Seminar and French classes we had been discussing air quality issues in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, as most students became annoyed at the constant discussion of these issues I became inclined to gain extensive knowledge pertaining to the ongoing air quality issues that were constantly affecting me. I became interested in this topic and the idea that maybe somehow I could make a difference. The air quality in Utah is extremely bad due to the increasing amount of pollution being emitted into the air. Utah is famous for its oil companies and we are one of the top ten oil producers which is one of the biggest reasons that the air quality is, in fact, so bad.…

For Torontonians, the problem regarding air quality is also a big challenge upfront. Although the overall air quality has been improved for recent years, Toronto still sees over a thousand premature deaths and over three thousand hospitalization due to respiratory diseases every year. (Toronto 's Vital Signs, 2015) Moreover, Dr. David McKeown (2007), Toronto medical officer of health, believes that the air pollution will be exaggerated by the effect of climate change and will further exacerbate the related burden of illness.…
