Many of the boys that played sports had received scholarships to go play in college, but very few girls were getting good scholarships to places they wanted to go. One of the girls had been a varsity basketball player all four years of high school and she always started on the team, but she was not getting the scholarships she deserved. She was always working hard and practicing on and off season to improve to the best of her ability. A boy that received a scholarship to play basketball, did not even come close to working as hard as she did, but he still got to go to college for free for his game.…

Inequality based on height is something I’ve dealt with my whole life. It’s something that has been embedded in me every since I can remember playing sports. If you’re not tall, you’re not good. That’s the message that has always been sent. It doesn’t matter if you can play better than someone who is taller than 6’, if you’re shorter you’re no good.…

I’m meaning involved as in my great grandparents donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the developing team. I’ve personally been to the Mile High Stadium at Sports Authority, in Denver, at least 15 times.…

Adversity is a specific time in someone's life when they are going through a difficult time. One situation in my lifetime when I was faced with adversity would have to be in my football career. It was my senior year and during one of my games I had unfortunately, sprained my right ankle on the first play of the game. I was devastated when I found this out and did everything I could to get back into that game. One example was when I was getting taped up to hopefully prevent as much pressure on my foot as possible.…

I have played football since I was six years old. Football is associated with violence for some, but I look at it as a lesson. Some of the most valuable life lessons that I know and use came from football: from taking pride in what you do to always having room for improvement no matter how good you are. The biggest life lesson that has always stuck with me is overcoming adversity. Out of all my years of playing football, we have never gone undefeated, and I have always faced the adversity of being down in games.…

    1) Functionalist Theory focuses on the ways that social structures influence action and relationship in the social worlds. Sports are an inspiration because it contributes to an individual and groups by bringing everybody together by sharing cultural values. An example of the functionalist theory is that sports organizations have a hierarchy system where everyone plays a role interconnected from top to bottom. That means everybody from ownership, to coaches, players, and all employees need to co-exist and work together as a cohesive unit. Working together by instituting core values where people respect themselves and others is functional; where as being disruptive will have negative influences that is dysfunctional.…

I have grown up watching, playing, and studying many different sports, whether it be football, or baseball, or basketball, or sometimes even soccer. I have always enjoyed playing sports, however, as an athlete, I have a distinct responsibility to practice sportsmanship. Sportsmanship is one of the most important facets of sports today. Sportsmanship allows us athletes to hate the other team for the duration of the game, but respect them at the same time. Sportsmanship is defined as “fair-play, respect for opponents, and polite behavior by someone in a competition.”…
