Our society today, everyone is own person, it is the survival of the fittest. To illustrate, the way the author of the book, night wrote the story as if he is taking the reader there. The characters in the story specifically the people in Sighet were confident that nothing bad will happen to them. The year 1944 once a peaceful town became restless. German officers came rolling in the town of Sighet. Nobody felt safe as they do not know what will be the commands of the German soldiers will be. The town was divided into two ghettos before they started transporting the people to the concentration camps. "Two ghettos were created in Sighet" (11). Everyone feels regretful when they are being transported. Under the blazing sun, people stand to wait for their names to be called. Kids were crying for water. "Water mother, I am thirsty" (16). After a long time of waiting, the people were finally called, seemingly enough that they prefer this over staying in their town with the exception of being under the oppressive heat. Distress and tears were evident with the addition of their slow and heavy walk. "In everyone's eyes, tears and distress" (17). This demonstrated as the hollowing of the human spirit within their body. It seems like people will prefer on going to the great unknown because of the things that they are experiencing now. Adversity as bad as may it sound one can go through it easily if he puts his mind through it. Putting a positive mind on the problem will somewhat make an individual easily solve it. Though it does not seem evident, one may think that Elie survive because people who is with him who had died wanted him to live to tell their story. That is what the protagonist did.
