Academic integrity is the equivalent to a code of practice in the academic world. It sets out boundaries for people so that plagiarism and cheating would not be tolerated or accepted it the academic world. The word integrity itself is very important .Integrity is a noun; it means adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. It encourages people to be honest in which the work that they are presenting. Honesty is a very important value that must be held by all academics. Even if the work load is extremely big they should always hold high levels of academic integrity. There are many different ways in which someone could cheat in an exam such as looking into a neighbours test to using a phone to look up answers. Academic misconduct is also a violation of university policies involving academic integrity. It is vital that people do not misconduct in the third level education so that they will be able to get the best possible understanding and grasp of what they are learning. They will not be able to use the skills that they are learning into proper practice when they carry on to their future career. A large-scale study in Germany found that 75% of the university students admitted that they conducted at least one of seven types of academic misconduct (such as plagiarism or falsifying data). These are staggering results and there is more that needs to be done to stop this misconduct.
Fabrication is also a major no no when it comes to academic integrity. Fabrication is the falsification of data, information, or citations in any formal academic exercise. This includes making up citations to back up arguments or inventing quotations. Fabrication predominates in the natural sciences, where students sometimes falsify data to make experiments "work". It includes data falsification, in which false claims are made about research performed, including selective submitting of results to exclude inconvenient data to generating bogus
