The Importance Of ALS In Sports

Many people have not heard of these diseases and maybe neither have you, but just imagine having to be a prisoner in your own body or losing your mind until you hurt yourself or someone else. When a disease like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is diagnosed a person suffers from a progressive Neurodegenerative disease where their muscles slowly become weaker until they are bound to a wheelchair or a bed, but there is one thing that is unaffected and that is their brain. They stay conscious through the whole process of their inevitable demise, where they slowly decay until the disease reaches their lungs, shut them down, and they choke to death, but all the while they watch the world move around them and are unable to communicate with loved ones. These diseases are very serious and I think that we can sacrifice the spirit and competitivity for rule changes in order to make sport safer for the athletes who play them. ALS is a very serious disease that has had continuous research on it but a cure has still not been found however we have gone a long way from where we originally were so where are we now.
