Wellness Wheel A wellness wheel looks at development in six different areas. I will break down my development in Physical, cultural, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual areas. After discussing my development in those areas, I will relate my development to the theories of Erikson and Vygotsky. I will also be discussing how my development and theories used relate to my future as a counselor.
Physical Development Physical Wellness involves maintaining the body at an optimum level of functioning. My body has never been at what would be considered optimum. I was born with Cerebral Palsy and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 18 months. I was diagnosed after my mom noticed that I was not hitting the physical markers for development.

I believe that I am in the integrative awareness stage of my own cultural identity. I understand that I have my own racial/cultural identity and have developed that both by genes as well as how I was raised in my family. I know that my environment has and will continue to influence my feelings and thoughts regarding race and culture. I know that I have had to fight against some of the things that my older family members may say about different races and cultures just due to their generational differences and lack of understanding. Although when I do stop someone from saying racist things and try to get them to change their thought process. However, naturally everyone has their own biases and anyone who tells you they do not have any is not being truthful. There is importance in become aware of the things you have biases about so that you can actively work on changing them and not letting them be a part of your thought process when meeting someone new of a different race or …show more content…
I have always been driven to prove myself and that drive has translated into my work and academic life. In high school I went through a phase where I was not concerned with my school work as much as I was my social life. That changed when the time came to try and get into college and I was determined to succeed at that. I got into college and then immediately went into a graduate program. I never really considered that I had any other option because I have always wanted to get my Ph. D. Once I realized to do what I want to do and help the most people I would need to become licensed I stated this program to achieve a second master’s degree. I still have plans to get my Ph.D. eventually. I think education is important not just to further a career but to expand a person’s understanding of the world. I place a high level of importance on intellect. Not that a person needs to be of high intelligence but that a person should have the ability to succeed. Grades or jobs have never come easy to me.
