Cultural Center Open House Essay

I chose to attend the Cultural Center Open House for the purpose of this assignment. The event proved to be a very interesting experience that gave me a sense of belonging. This event helped me realize the importance of cultural centers, especially in schools as large as the University of Connecticut, containing over 30,000 students. Often, it is easy to feel lost due to the size of both the campus and the student population. However, going to the Cultural Center Open House, made me realize that if I ever felt misplaced and needed a reminder of my culture, I could go to the African American Cultural Center for that purpose. The Open House began and everyone who attended was given a pamphlet, which listed the names of all the Cultural Centers we would visit on the tour. The …show more content…
I feel as if I could walk in any day and talk to the people that work there and ask for advice on issues they could relate with. More importantly, the center feels like home and it feels nice to fit so easily and perfectly into a place. Although, my time at the University of Connecticut has been great so far and I have made many new friends and connections. I know that if I ever need specific help from someone at the African American Cultural Center, I could walk in and they would be there for me. Having this is an awesome feeling because there’s nothing worse then having a problem and not having anywhere to go or anyone to talk to about it. However, thanks to the Cultural Centers, this won’t be a problem for all the people that are part of the cultural centers or that are aware of them and I are satisfy on knowing that they have that place to go to if they ever need to. The Cultural Center Open House was a great experience and I am happy to have such a place like the African American Cultural
