Personal Narrative: My Trip To Quito, Ecuador

Improved Essays
When I was ten years old, my mother and I went on a month long trip to Quito, Ecuador to visit my father and other family. One day my abuelo (my grandfather) told my mom and I that he was going to take us on a trip to the edge of the Amazon rainforest. We got up very early the day of the trip, a factor that did not add to the very little excitement I had for the trip. When we got out to the car to meet my abuelo, he decided that would be a great time to mention for the first time that this was going to be an overnight trip and to go back inside and pack …show more content…
A giant rockslide had blocked half of the mountain road. People were trying to clear it enough to let cars through but it was taking a very long time. This was the first sign that the trip was not going to go very smoothly. The second sign showed itself a little later. We had gotten out of the traffic and were continuing up the mountain. He told us that they were memorials for all the people who died in a terrible bus crash on that road. Needless to say, hearing that did not make me feel very jazzed about continuing with the trip. It wasn’t long after this that I fell asleep. To this day I 'm not sure what it was exactly that woke me up that afternoon. Whether the unnatural motion of the car, my mom’s screaming, or just horrible timing, I don’t know. Regardless, waking up from a nap to see the car you’re in spinning towards either the edge of a mountain or a large concrete slab plastered on the side of a mountain is not a pleasant experience. Everything happened so fast I barely had time to comprehend what was happening. I just knew that it was bad so I started screaming. Because of

If you were to look in my room you’ll probably see a mess clothes all over the floor, papers on my bed, and tennis balls on my desk, you could say that I’m not the most organized person in the world. But upon looking at all that mess, there is a picture hanging on just one nail, collecting dust as if it was some kind of ancient artifact. As I look at it every morning before heading off to school I am instantly reminded of a trip that I now use to define who I am: commitment, compassion, and courage. This was the photo of my trip in Leon, Nicaragua.…

Commencing Unbound A lurid, fuchsia dress with generously powdered glitter and blaring, familiar music danced to by relatives you weren't even aware were relatives are trademarks of the traditional rite of passage into adulthood in my culture and one I never had the pleasure to experience due to my family's financial situation at that time. Still, my own stride into coming of age was too one with renowned garb, although much less garish. Familiar music playing in the background and only my immediate family sat close to the stage in awe to watch me. Graduating from my esteemed high school, Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), was the omega to the alpha of my future. That experience both humbled me and triggered the tenacity in me to…

I woke up on the cushioned beach chair, gazing across the seemingly endless magical, blue aura of the ocean. As far as I could see, glistening sand stretched across the water, as the magnificent, jagged rock structures that watched over the Pacific Ocean like birds over their prey. Just two hours outside of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, golf courses, resorts and beaches lined the entire peninsula. The luxurious resorts boasted private beaches and exclusive accommodations along the picturesque coastline of Peninsula Papagayo. Any accommodations you could possibly imagine would be provided immediately by the professionally trained wait staff.…

This March, my family and I took a trip to Mexico for vacation. We did many fun things down there such as; parasailing, went on a boat for a day trip, sail boating, went swimming in the ocean, buggy board, sand volleyball, swam in the pool, walked the beach at night, got henna tattoos, a dread in our hair and went to the club with my brother and Emerson. The sand on my feet, the crashing of the waves, people swimming in the ocean, the smell of sunscreen and the wonderful taste of my flamingo drink; Mexico is my kind of place to be. But the first day in particular sticks out to me the most, the day we went parasailing and sail boating. Waking up in the morning in your soft hotel comforter, gives you a great feeling.…

The hazy feeling of staying awake for an entire day settled in my body. As the early flickers of sunlight shone through the grand windows of the studio, I was able to look down at my work and appreciate the beauty of it. Perhaps it was the several shots of espresso, or the feeling of adrenaline but I was able to complete my first Architectural project. Just like most of my summer, I spent hours using my lead holder to perfect each line in my plans and sections and I sharpening my pencil much too often to make sure that each line was crisp and that my line weight was exceptional.…

This summer I was very fortunate to go to Dominican Republic. Before this trip I haven’t visited Dominican Republic in over five years, so I was pretty eager to visit. When I first stepped out of the plane, I took in a breath. I feel that the air over there smells so different since many people over there burn their garbage, I actually like that smell. The streets in Dominican Republic are very bumpy and have a lot of motorists, so during my visit I did not hesitate to drive.…

In the summer of 2011 when I was the age of thirteen, I was going to reach the biggest milestone in my life at that time; which was going to Nicaragua all by myself. I could remember the day when my dad booked the flight and thinking how my siblings and I were going to experience where my parents grew up and how things worked in their hometown. It was not until a few days later when my dad walked into my room; seriously but not furiously and said, “Son at your age you should feel so lucky that you guys have a better life than your mother and I had. The ticket that I bought, was for you and only for you; you are the only one going on this trip so then you know what your mother and I went through to be here to give you guys the life that we wanted as a kid.” At that time, I did not…

The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…
