So, I ran on quickly to get closer to them. As I approached them, I remember I was shaking before talking to them. Questioning myself what if they attacked me and killed me. But, then I listened to my gut, Noor you have to do it. I said as I saw them standing facing an ice cream shop "Hey, I saw what were doing girls". One of the girls with a Russian accent replied to me "What are you assuming". I replied back "Don 't pretend that you don 't know what I 'm talking about". She said "For a fact, I don 't know what you are talking about." I said "Well, then I 'm going to take a picture of three of you and show that to the police because I 'm positive that you were trying to steal money from my purse". A tall girl with black long hair interrupted my conversation by saying "Hey, Hey back off". I stepped back, don 't wanting to cause any troubles. I cried as I ran back towards the Hotel direction, frightened. They shouted out loud as I was walking away from them "terrorist, terrorist, this Muslim girl is a

Much like Callaghan struggled to redeem control from under Parisian and Hemingway’s influences, John Glassco in Memoirs of Montparnasse endeavored to find and regain power over his narrative. Memoirs of Montparnasse was a delicate attempt to define himself and proclaim his Canadian identity amongst the modernist project in Canada. In Memoirs of Montparnasse, Glassco offers his readers an unconventional history of modernism with other opportunities in the ongoing battle to establish the ground for Canadian identity. Therefore, Memoirs of Montparnasse are a unique construction that takes important place in the Canadian literary tradition with its affiliations to gender, sexuality, and nationality in Canadian writing. Glassco’s memoir of youth belong to Montreal as much as Paris.…

Cantigny Reading over the local historical places to visit my eyes gleamed with 8th grade memories when I ran across Cantigny. I had fond memories of Cantigny with my 8th grade friends as we eagerly climbed on the tanks to take pictures as well as when we went through the tours. Though, I couldn’t recall the significance of the place. Of course, this visit was to be connected with history somehow, but to me Cantigny was just tanks. So this summer I headed down with one of my good friends on one of the hottest days of this summer, and we both walked in with not much expectation for anything informational.…

In order to understand the lives of the working class in Paris in the 19th Century, it is necessary to understand how their lives were not simply shaped by larger influences such as the economic forces of capitalism or the regulating role of the state. Instead, it is important to unveil how the city itself spatialized and constructed social and gender difference for the working class, while they, in a mutually constitutive manner shaped modes of sociability in the city. Analysis of the works by Faure, Ferguson, Haine, and Ross, makes clear that Shane Ewan’s three features of urban history are vital to a discussion of the working class. The use of interdisciplinarity, ‘history from below’ and the city-as-agent elucidate the hidden history of the working class and their daily relationships with their environment and each other. The working class in Paris created a family, community and…

And there were so many other kids to play along with too.…

While on the refugee boat lining up to get soup, I tried to hide my face, due to people not particularly liking women. While waiting in the line, to get soup three smaller kids were behind me complaining about being hungry, I when suddenly my blanket fell off revealing me, everyone one was staring at me. I was just wearing my usual clothes shorts, t-shirt with a sparkly pattern on it, my favourite lace-up construction boots, make-up which included my green lipstick. I pretended not to notice, as I was pretty hungry, so I kept holding out my tin to the sailor but he kept saying “no soup” after he said it the second time I just gave up. Then a little girl cried out ‘it’s not fair’ then she started to say something but one of the older boys covered her mouth and asked for soup but he got none so they sat behind me and they boy gave her a lecture about something.…

There are times when chance takes a hold of the things we do in life, when we just cannot explain the unexplainable but we accept it anyway because of the extra ordinary results. For me this was never more undeniable than just last month, when I was granted an opportunity to go to Verona, Italy, as a part of something the army likes to call a staff ride. It is a great opportunity as an organization, were we as service members have an opportunity travel, learn something new, build esprit de corps, and share experiences, both past and present. This trip to Verona, Italy completely encouraged my research paper and gave the most extraordinary topic to write about. My research topic was motivated by chance, new experiences, and reflection of the…

After that my brother, sister, and I were guided to the couches that were located in the lobby, while my parents spent about twenty agonising minutes checking us in. After the long flight I just wanted to lay down and rest, but my dad thought it would be a wonderful idea to go out into the city and explore some of the many different places. Groaning and dragging my feet along with shoulders hunched forward I followed my eager parents into a place that I had never been before. The hustle and bustle of the day was all around me, and the amount of people who were walking throughout the streets and the sidewalk was astounding. About five minutes into the walk a loud noise boomed throughout the entire city chanting words in a language I had never heard before.…
