Describe A Supervisory Relationship

A supervisory relationship is a relationship that exists between a supervisor and the supervisee. For a supervisory relationship to be successful, the relationship must embody the qualities of sensitivity, dependability, attentiveness, respectfulness, collaborativeness, and reflection (Youngstrom, 2014). Sensitivity is achieved when both parties are perceptive of and responsive to the others professional and personal needs. Supervisors can demonstrate sensibility by recognizing the limits of the knowledge and knowing when to refer the supervisee to another person who can better respond to their needs. Dependability is another quality that improves the supervisory relationship. Both supervisors and supervisees need to be dependable by upholding commitments and being flexible …show more content…
They are consistent and caring but may be stubborn and unsupportive of ideas in which they deem impulsive or people who come across as pushy (UNC Chapel Hill, n.d.). Thinkers perform better when they enjoy the work they are doing and can look at all angles and contingencies, but may appear sarcastic, combative, or critical. There are several of aspects of the connector and thinker communication styles that align with my personality, for better or for worse. I am extremely stubborn when I make my mind up on something I believe in, and in some instances, this quality works in a positive way as it allows me to uphold my morals and values, but other times it makes me seem unsupportive of other’s ideas. On the flip side of this, I am considerate others and will listen to their ideas and consider them if well thought out, and I am not wholeheartedly in support of my own opinion on the subject.
