The idea of what our income will be after we graduate is also a factor. As social work we understand that we do more work than any other field and receive the lowest pay. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median pay for a social worker in 2012 was about $44,200 per year or $21.25 an hour. (Projections,2014) To many, this rate of pay does not show any form of success but that of failure to do better. People of the nursing field have a much higher income than that of social workers and even educational teachers. This is where you can determine if someone’s idea of success is based on their financial situation or based of the empowerment of others. Teachers base their success off of how they see their students blossom or how they have impacted the student’s ability to make and achieve goals. Not on the $55,050 a year a high school teacher is projected to earn. (Projections,2014) Some nurses see success in the same light when it comes to their patients and the improvements they have in their health. Yet, others just see the job as a means become wealthy. Given the entry level pay of a registered nurse with an associates degree of $65,470 a year. Some of these professionals may not even acknowledge their own levels of success until their see the forward progress of their students or clients. In many ways success for social work majors is completely different from that of an education, business, law, or communication major. They struggle at different levels with different aspects of their own fields that social workers never have to enter. However, those same differences are what make us so similar because it shows how someone’s success molds them into the person or persons that he or she will become in their field. It also can be completely the same in the fact that we will all be acknowledged for the achievements we have made in different and varying ways. Some may get a simple thank you or others may get some kind of gift but all we need is the simple knowledge that we made a difference because of the education we
