Eddie has improved a lot regarding his gross motor skills. Over the years it has taken a lot, but he can now take the stares if he would wish to do so. When writing or coloring having a larger grip is beneficial for Eddies, and an easy adjustment. One struggle we still have in the classroom is use of scissors. This makes it hard for him when we do projects in the class room, or in the art room. While his peers can be independent, he occasionally requires help. I’m not sure if an occupational therapist is involved, but I feel this would be a great benefit for Eddie, to be able to improve on those skills.
In addition to motor skills, Eddie has difficulties reading non-verbal cues. This can make it difficult for Eddie to from relationships with peers. Because he is sometimes unaware of other people’s personal space, peers and adults may get uncomfortable, and Eddie may not pick up on that cue. One support I might suggest is a social skills class. This would not only help with personal space and non-verbal cues, but also knowing who he can and cannot trust. One last thing that would help Eddie is being explicit. If he is getting to close to the teacher, she can kindle tell him to take a step back, or to keep his hands to himself. The teacher can also explain this to his peers, so everyone is on the same page.
