Elementary schooling provided me with a very important job serving my fellow classmates as their recess monitor. Every recess as a conflict manager, I was protecting by stopping crime and hatred, as many approached me with conflicts. My term of duty continued onto my intermediate level monitor. Although, this was not as cool as it seemed back in the day, I can still remember how important I felt helping others overcome obstacles they could not by themselves. Recess monitoring in my elementary years triggered my interest in public education and serving. Many years passed and so did my recess playdates; now my free time was spent in study halls. Study halls now monitored by teachers there was no need for my help, so naturally I found elsewhere to continue my love for expanding knowledge for others. This lead to weekly tutoring in the pre-k level also the fourth and sixth grade math classes. Advancing from pre-k to fourth grade was quite a jump. Starting the kiddos off with basic number flash cards to numberring fractions was even a struggle for me! Just as I had got the hang of creating methods for the pre-kindergartners, I had to brainstorm new ideas for easy fraction tips. Connecting with all ages of my tutoring kids was the easiest part of this adventure. Walking into the classroom as a young teen sparked the kids interest rather than and older adult teacher. As part of the younger generation with the children in the room, comprehensive strategies were no problem between myself and the students. Legos and Barbies were our building block for counting, which lead kids to enjoy the learning and to take a break from their normal classroom procedure with their main teacher. Once the semester came to an end, so did my last months of tutoring. The smiles on
