Case Study: Marching Pioneers

Successful organizations all require 2 things: a strong team and strong leaders to direct the team to victory, and the Marching Pioneers is no exception to this rule. With an ensemble as large as the Marching Pioneers, there is no physically possible way 4 top tier leaders can give everyone the attention they need. Section leaders are necessary for the success of our fine organization, and there’s nothing more satisfying than being part of a leadership team that can add to the already growing success of this talented group. Here are just a few reasons why I would like to be in the next generation of saxophone section leaders. To be a section leader is like being given a lump of clay and being told to mold into the Statue of David. The group you are leading may only have a handful of alumni, so you must be prepared to take a bunch of freshman, some who may not even have any marching experience, and make them perfect by the time the season is over. Most people would see that as a challenge, but the true leaders would see that as a challenge they are willing to take one. I love taking on challenges, as I feel it builds character. If I were to be a section leader, I would be able to take on a challenge that few are willing to take on and be able to see the outcome of my leadership and how it affects the ensemble, which would be fulfilling. I would also be able to have the satisfaction of helping my section mates become the best marchers and people they can be in all ways I can. Best of all, I would be able to be someone people can easily approach with no judgement, which I feel everyone needs. Overall, being a section leader to me would be the most satisfying and enriching way for someone to be able to help the Marching Pioneers become better than
