My First Spanish Class

In modern society, many people know or know somebody that knows how to speak a second language. I remember back in high school, I was required to learn a second language to graduate. There were choices of Spanish, Chinese, French, and Latin and a few others. Upperclassmen had things to say about all of the languages, some good and some not so good. I remember hearing phrases like "Latin is useless" and "French is really difficult." These phrases varied by the language and teacher. Taking in other people 's opinions and what seemed like the best option at the time, I chose to take Spanish for my second language.
Spanish was supposed to be the easiest language of the ones offered and one of the more enjoyable languages to learn. These were misconceptions though. Some people have that natural ability to learn languages, which makes learning the new language very easy; I 'm not one of those people. My first Spanish class wasn 't fun and the speech learning curve was horrible. Coming from a family that only spoke English and having heard no other dialects other than the occasional ones on television, learning to speak Spanish was very difficult for me. My speech was becoming very fluent and I didn’t really have any trouble with the grammar and vocabulary anymore. For this class I had one of the best teachers I think I’ve ever had in my school career. He traveled to the countries we had discussed, was completely fluent in the language, and was almost a friend as much as he was our teacher. Because of him, I think I had the best learning experience I could have. Learning the new vocabulary went much better, even if it still seemed pointless. The games were fun and enjoyable and the class didn’t that boring and repetitive feeling. In the end, I felt successful and confident in

Carlene Carmichael, in “Teach Them Spanish Early, Too”, argues that Americans in California should be taught Spanish at a young age. Carmichael supports her argument by saying that young Americans should have the chance to learn basic Spanish (reading and writing) and learn together with other children who speak and know Spanish. She also says those who learn Spanish will have a greater opportunity to compete for jobs that require both languages. Therefore, Carmichael asserts that Americans who do not speak Spanish are at a disadvantage because some jobs require them to speak Spanish.…

It was too boring at the time. But now I can see why my parents always pushed for me to learn Spanish. It allowed me to be much more culturally “sensitive” in a very culturally diverse world. I would be able to speak to all of my relatives and breeze through those pesky Spanish…

Bilingualism in the Latino community is abundant and has shown to be a beneficial skill to have, however monolingualism has continued to be promoted when they arrive in the United States. Half of the planet is bilingual due to the fact that it is encouraged by many countries because of the numerous advantages. So, in my opinion, it should be encouraged for everyone to possess this skill, but to my surprise, that is not the case for the United States. A couple of advantages of learning a secondary language is faster problem-solving skills and the delaying of dementia. Potowski explained how when a person immigrates here, they usually do not speak English, whereas their children and grandchildren do as they go through the education system.…

How I was farther from the truth, as it only took 2 failing quizzes for him to come up to my desk and say to me "I recommend you try again. From the beginning.…
