Most officer’s hours are very peculiar. Just to become a police officer in the state of Iowa they have to go to Iowa LEA, or The Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, for 14 weeks. During this time they are only allowed to see their families on the weekends. After they graduate, they are usually put on a graveyard shift which will put them on an opposite schedule of the rest of the family. My father is on a graveyard shift and the only times I see him is when I arrive home, and he is leaving for work. This shift also makes it hard for my father that to make school events. Every day I know that if I am ever in trouble or need help I know that if my dad is not around to help me I can call any one of the other officers to help me out. Not only does that apply to me, it also applies to everyone in the community. These officers will also protect every citizen, no matter the circumstances, to the best of their ability. My father has always said that if someone is in trouble they can always count on an officer to help them no matter what they have done, what they have said, and how they have acted, if they call, the officers will respond. Another example of the how police officers are a family is that just recently there was a female officer killed in the line of duty. On the day of her funeral thousands of officers from around the United States came to show how much support the family had and how much respect that the officer had. Officers are killed in the line of duty every day. Most people do not realize that it does not only affect the officers in that certain community, it affects all of the officers across the United
