Which began at a very tender age for me and was caused by emotional, physical, and verbal abuse. I was orphaned by the age of three, suffered a traumatic injury to my spine at the age of seven, was relocated to a few foster homes from the age eight to fourteen, till I was finally adopted by my current family at the age fifteen. It is said that childhood depression is a persistent sadness that occurs, when the child feels alone, hopeless, helpless, and worthless. This type of sadness is unending; and it disrupts every part of your life. (Brennan, 2016) But now that unending sadness has also seeped into my adult life where it is stealing my joy and happiness from me. So I plan to combat this depression by seeking professional help and attending the DBSA support group here in Riverside county. Also I have fallen victim to using food to self-medicate and to improve uncomfortable feelings, but this contributes to my constant weight gain. Making this another bad habit, but I plan to break this cycle by substituting it with going for a walk or starting a garden. Nevertheless, I know this will be a constant battle being depression takes time and commitment to overcome. Which is achievable when you put effort into improving all the different dimension of health not just the physical. There are several areas that contribute to our overall health and wellbeing. Physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual and environmental are all components of our health. But we have to arrive at a realization that our health needs improving before we attempt to create a successful plan to provoke change. Because we all too often wait till we are faced with a life altering consequences caused by our bad health choices before we decide that it is time to take better care of ourselves. This is exactly what I did; living in a state of denial can only last for so long. However, now that I have a clear picture of the jeopardy I’m putting my health in I’m prepared to make needed adjustments. Taking it one day at a time and focusing on my three target areas; obesity, depression, and social isolation. And once I have conquered these set goals I plan to create new ones till I have improved upon every dimension of my health. Not to mention I want to regain my confidence, be able to see my doctor and not receive bad news, and start back looking in the mirror with pride.
