The Importance Of A Memorial

To memorialize something is to put it down as something that you will see and by seeing it you will remember something. It could be an alarm telling you to get up, or a bench placed by a lake in memory of the man who cleaned the lake for Most of their life. A memorial can be anything; but what it stands for is something that is of importance. What the memorial stands for could be a dog sled team that saved a town of sick children, or a great chief of an indian tribe. We memorialize many things because we choose to not let them escape our memory. You walk past a statue, look up and remember “oh yea,l Benjamin Franklin is a pretty important figure in our history.” Many don't realize that a large amount of planning goes into creating a memorial sight, or statue. The material is an important factor as you have to decide whether you want a large stone figure, or a cannon from the war it memorializes. As with the problem mentioned in the section on the holocaust museum, they were worried about placing a museum about holocaust victims in a mall. Due to that worry they would have to change the look of the museum several times, then eventually it would end with someone entirely different designing the museum. This leads us to believe that obviously the design and setup of the memorial is very important. If it looks bad then someone will get offended.
