Getting a Masters degree is an aspiration of many that opens up the doors to a higher level of knowledge and understanding; elevation of self worth; better employment opportunity; higher income potential; and more. It is a pillar that solidifies a person 's dedication, credibility and knowledge through his/her hard work. Thus one of the key issue in consideration for a Masters degree is choosing the appropriate field of study that will complement the social, professional and personal requirements. A deeper degree of complexity is also added for the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program as the degree offering can be a general MBA or an MBA with "Specialization" or concentration where the program provides this higher level of business …show more content…
The web page is, "5 Tips for Choosing an M.B.A. Concentration" where it claims, "Your business degree focus can shape your career, so use these tips to help you choose a path" (Sheehy, 2012). The website provides a minimal degree of information with a multitude of embedded website links in attempt to provide additional information. From the perspective of "Authority", this website acquires the parental credibility and reputation of one of the top news organization in the world. The organization "US News" and all its print and online publications have an enormous influence in the U.S. society in the realms of business, economy, employment, data collection, surveys and more. However, in the realm of academia, the website is not as authoritative as an academic institution or U.S. government entities such as the U.S. Department of Education (providing educational standards and guidance) or U.S. Department of Labor (providing applicability of education towards employment). In the consideration of "Accuracy", the website again takes a minimalistic approach. It provides a directed view of the MBA programs with specialization with mostly internal organizational citations and articles. It only provides five (5) tips for selecting a degree concentration at a high level without any specific examples or substantiation for those tips.
