The Importance Of A Hero In My Life

Decent Essays
I would like to think all First Responders are considered heroes. First responders include EMTs, paramedics, police officers, and last but not least, fire fighters. By definition, a hero is a person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. I am lucky enough to call one of those heroes a brother. Evan is a paramedic fire fighter and has been since 2010. Every day my brother puts his life on the line to save others, which is inspiring enough but what inspires me most about Evan is the day he graduated from the fire academy. When he graduated, he proved nothing was impossible by breaking the barrier of doubts. Evan struggled all throughout his educational experience. He didn’t plan …show more content…
Schooling was never the most important thing to me. I struggled from a very young age with school, and especially with math. If you aren’t good at something, it makes you not want to try. That was my mindset for the longest time. Now, I strive to succeed during my time here at the university. I plan on getting a degree in social work because I feel so strongly about giving back to others. I really want to make a difference in someone’s life, and I feel like through social work I will accomplish that. Evan inspires me so much that not only am I getting my bachelor’s degree; I plan on furthering my education after these four years and getting my masters. Without him taking the initial step forward years ago, I am not sure if I would be attending college this year. A hero can be different in everyone’s opinion. A hero could have a cape, be a parent, and even a stranger. There is not one certain type of person that is considered a “hero.” To my family and everyone else in that crowd, Evan Wood graduating was an accomplishment for him. To me, it was an eye opening, consuming moment that changed my path in life for the absolute better. Evan is a hero to me, without even being conscious of the real reason I look up to him so much. Evan is a hero not only for inspiring me or saving lives, but also being a big brother and pushing me every day of my life without even

When someone says “hero”, I don’t think of the stereotypical superman hero that is commonly recognized and associated with the word. I think of a normal, average person who goes out of their way to help or save someone in need. I take my parents as an example. They are ordinary people who help me and care for me, even though they don’t have any “superpowers”. They are kind, brave, and honest; three qualities that someone heroic or respected must have to be the way they are.…
