Essay On Mission Focus

In my opinion, this is a tricky question and difficult to answer. As a First Sergeant, people and their needs is my mission, and I strive to work through problems effectively and efficiently to restore their mission focus. Over the last three years, my position has allowed to recognize the true value of responding to the needs of others. Usually, a myriad of problems may negatively affect a member’s duty performance including relationship issues, financial stress, alcohol, physical fitness, and/or legal issues. These issues produce significant amounts of stress on Airmen and limit the quality and timeliness of their work. Unfortunately, this impacts the entire unit as others must pick up the slack to ensure the mission is accomplished. In turn, the added effort causes stress and may produce unforeseen issues on those “picking up the slack”. Therefore, it is imperative for me to work through these issues quickly. Truly, a happy worker with a mission focus is a superior worker capable of making significant contributions.

Regarding strategic planning, I have little experience in this realm. As discussed in class, I fell into the trap of believing this skill set was for strategic leaders and other enterprise-level decision-makers. I never took a step back and considered what strategic planning could do for me and my unit as a First Sergeant. In my current position, strategic planning will help me develop long-term goals for my area of responsibility which I can align with my commander’s vision. Although this skill will take a significant time to develop, I am confident that beginning to develop it immediately will improve my leadership in my current position and in future

The secularization of the missions was created during the time when the Spanish had begun to have a fond interest on the new found Californian land. Most importantly, the Spaniards used the missions as a method to impose their imperial control over Indians. I value these things because this is what makes up my life and what I live for each day. My life is a fourth generation person and I relate because I “want to live, love, learn, and leave it like a seed with balance and joy" (Covey, 73) the quality of my life is more important than planning it out.…
