There are many reasons why I want to be a Family and Consumer Sciences educator. When talking about my change in career paths, I think I had a bullet point list that took up at least a page of reasons why. I will not be going through all of those reasons today, because let’s be honest, that would be repetitive. The reasons I will address today include: Family and Consumer Sciences is my passion, this career path would never feel like a job to me, and becoming a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher will allow me to utilize my greatest strengths. It is my belief that these three reasons really encompass why I want to become a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher. I want to be a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher because it is my passion. This idea is how I ended up changing career paths from pharmacy to Family and Consumer Sciences education. After three full semesters in pharmacy, I started to get bogged down with monotony of pharmacy. For the last three years, I have helped evaluate projects at the regional level for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), long before I decided to pursue Family and Consumer Sciences education. I have always believed every student needs to learn the basic foundations of food and nutrition, career development, personal finance, child development, apparel merchandising and product development, and interior design. My philosophy is, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but is oftentimes better than a master of one.” It…
