Personal Narrative: A Christian Influence On My Life

There are more than 7 billion people on this earth, and that number continues to grow each second. There are tall and short, blonde and brunette, Caucasian and African American people. We are all unique and different in our own ways and yet God knows us each by name, he knows the amount of hairs on our head, and he knows our entire future. This is a good reminder to me on a daily basis. God has placed each one of us on this earth for a purpose, and He has a plan for our lives. His plan is so much better than our own, we just have to have faith in Him. I am a child of God, who is lost, sinful, and in need of a Savior. I have been a Christian my entire life, but I continue to fail on a daily basis. It is God who forgives me, gives me hope, and …show more content…
My parents have raised me in a Christian home, I have gone to a Christian school my whole life, and now here I am, at a Christian College. Even though I have always had a Christian influence on my life, that doesn’t mean my life has been a breeze. I have had friendships fall apart, loved ones pass away, and fear about my future. Throughout all of this, I have felt the Holy Spirit working in my life. I have had many opportunities to go on mission’s trips with my church, and have felt the Holy Spirit working in my group. One way I have specifically felt the Holy Spirit working in my life in the past four years is in the decisions I have made. In high school I choose to surround myself with positive influences, that would help my faith continue to grow. My friends impacted my decisions, what I did in my free time, and my interests. In the past year specifically I had to make a lot of decisions. Where I wanted to go to college, what I wanted to major in, and what direction I wanted my future to go in. These decisions haven’t been easy but I choose to go to Dordt, and I already know that Dordt College is the right place for me. However, I did not make these decisions on my own. The Holy Spirit has guided me to my friends, Dordt, and my major. Without the work of the Holy Spirit in my life in the past for years I don’t think I would be where I am

There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

As a young teenage girl I was always focused on keeping up my good grades, having the perfect outfit for school, and helping out at church. Little did I realize that God and I did not have a close relationship. When I entered my first year of high school I decided to go deeper into ministry by helping out in the Worship team’s soundboard because of the lack of helpers at the church. As I entered deeper into ministry my understanding of Christ began to grow and I began to help out in both the Worship department and the Youth department. The more I began learning about Christ the more different I started to become.…

My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…
