I am a Psychology major at the University of Arizona. My graduation date is May 2017 and once I graduate I plan to move to New York. I just recently declared my major and I had a lot of trouble finding a major that I liked. I am very indecisive and thinking about the future also frightens me. That is why trying to pick two careers to talk about in-depth is very difficult for me, but after extensive research into different career paths I could take with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology I have found two different careers that I believe I would enjoy and would support me in the future. All states require a bachelor’s degree at least, as well as a teacher prep program, certification exam, and background checks. New York, the state I would like to move to after I graduate, requires just a bachelor’s degree and offers permanent and initial certificate (“Certification…”). As a psychology major at the University of Arizona, I am required to have a minor. I have not yet declared a minor, but I believe that a minor in special education or early childhood education would be great minors to pair with my degree and career choice of being a special education teacher. If this was the career path I decided to take, I am on track with my school courses. I might eventually, but it doesn’t interest me at this point in my life, and that is also a benefit of this career path. Because I would only have a bachelor’s degree and teacher certifications, I don’t believe there is much advancement in my career choice. If I went to graduate school and received a master’s degree, then I could advance, but that’s just not an interest to me right now. Even though there is job stress and insecurities in this field, and there doesn’t seem to be much advancement, I think this good would be satisfactory. The pay and hours are things I like about this job, as well as the schooling I need and the enjoyment I would get from helping
