Career Essay: A Career As A Sonographer

Throughout high school I was clueless what career to choose. I realized that many of my acquaintances were pregnant or had children already. Everyone also talked about how different aged women were pregnant. I started thinking about the amount of pregnant women having to see a Sonographer and in the future how babies will still be born, so my career will be beneficial. That is when I started to have ideas of being a Sonographer, but I still wasn’t sure. My sister found out she was pregnant in 2015 and showed me her ultrasound. As the months went by she kept showing me the different pictures how her baby grew each month, and I never knew how to read the picture, so I gained curiosity in learning about Ultrasound. For those students who want to work with patients, but do not want to become a nurse or doctor, Sonography provides interaction with both by explaining the procedure to patients and get consulted by medical staff to inform them about the picture. There’s also variety of jobs and skills. Ultrasound techs may also specialize in obstetric and gynecologic sonography or abdominal sonography, cardiovascular sonography, and mammographic sonography. However, to be accredited into these fields, further education is needed. Many students out there who are currently attending high school, college, or a university often find themselves stuck on what career to choose. It’s pretty stressful and overwhelming having to choose what career to work for the rest of their life. I was lucky to figure it out right when I began college. After researching and interviewing an actual sonographer, I have gotten a pretty clear image of where I will be in the future. I am actually pretty excited. I hope my expectations for this job come
