The following report is written to introduce, inform and advise ‘finance for you’ as to whether a bank should or should not be opened in Saudi Arabia. I have investigated and reported upon the following points; General Considerations: religion, language, dress etiquette and customs. Travel Issues including access and importance of visa and country security.

Arabic is the official language of Saudi Arabia, though travellers need not to worry as English is widely spoken and commonly used in business and often a compulsory second language in schools. Dedication to Islam means there are certain practises new to foreigners and should be learnt quickly is business negotiations are to be successful. Certain obligations for Muslims are to pray five times a day - at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening. Do not schedule meetings at these times. Also Friday is the Muslim holy day. Everything is closed and as a result nothing should be arranged on Friday as it is rude and is easily avoidable. Many companies also close on Thursday, making the weekend Thursday and Friday.
During the holy month of Ramadan all Muslims must fast from dawn to dusk and are only permitted to work six hours per day. In general, things happen more slowly during Ramadan. It is unwise to try and conduct business during Ramadan as in most cases nothing will be settled upon until a later date and would be a waste of …show more content…
If your meeting is being held with government officials a definite date is not agreed upon until you are in the country. Morning meetings are best and make sure you arrive on time though expect to be kept waiting; it is not uncommon for a meeting to be cancelled even while you are there waiting. Business meeting will only start after general greetings and small talk. You may inquire if their family is well but never in quire specifically about a Saudi’s wife, daughters, etc. Unless trust has been developed the meetings are generally not private and often have many interruptions. You are welcome to join in appropriate conversations but do not bring the topic back to your original business until that person/s have
