The church has long been a crutch of most communities. America began due to differences in what the church was supposed to do. During the civil rights era, it was the church that was fighting for the rights of African Americans and they even would meet at churches and set the standard and put together plans to get equality. This has turned into a huge Christian community in America and a huge lean on the church. Almost 55 percent of Americans say that church is very important and 24 percent say that church is fairly important (Potgeister 1 2015). By offering this help to people it will increase community morale. When people keep things to themselves it often turns into other issues. Potgeister lists in his article that unemployment, crime and political issues are tied to a lack of successful counseling in South Africa (P. 2 2015). After attending to their emotional, mental and physical needs of the community, the community becomes less crime ridden. In a study done by Matthew R Lee, he points out that in cities where church was the focal point that crime was lower than in any other area (P12 2015). This is a direct effect of all aforementioned benefits of a church being in a community. Lee further goes to state that violent crimes, like the ones mentioned in the article by Poltergiest, are substantially lower where there are more churches per capita.
